Garauld,

If you haven't looked at the various reviews on WebBikeWorld.com, you should take a look. They have a whole section on flashlights with lots of pros/cons. I ended up with a Maxxeon WorkStar 220 Pocket Floodlight and it is incredible the amount of light this thing puts out for such a small device. It does not have an adjustable beam but casts a very large area of light without hot spots. The reviews might help with your decision.

Similar to the Fenix lights, they have some HUGE high output and rechargeable lights as well.

Nice specs and features. But looks like no anti-roll capability on most.
Not sure what you mean, like roll off the table? All of the ones I have, have a pocket clip or something on them that that makes them 'anti-roll'. Their larger lights like the Maelstroms, have dimples and stuff on the outer parts that I think make them less likely to roll.

But I'm not an anti-roll expert.

:)

I am partial to these;

Small (1 AA I use lithium battery's in them) The lens cap slides to focus the beam. You can spotlight a squirrel at 50 yards with these. Don't ask me how I know that ;)

Mating with squirrels now are ya? :D

Oh, I'm sorry...you told me not to ask. Never mind.

BTW, to get this on topic, I ordered a flashlight today based on one of the forumite's opinions. I know most of you guys, and I still take your word for it.

I have one of these in my collection and agree. Nice light and Meritline is a good vendor.

What'd you order you big gurl?? If you ordered the one I linked to, you also gotta order the batteries and charger. All in with two sets of batteries shipped to the door was like $56. If you didn't, then Nevermind!!

The Streamlight Survivor was designed for the fire/rescue service. It is hands down the best light I've used. It does not have the ability to switch from flood to spot, but I never felt the need for this feature. For sweeping the yard you'd be hard pressed to find a light better suited to the job. I recommended to a friend's wife for that exact purpose, and she is thrilled with the light. They have a huge yard (3 acres or so) and it easily reaches every corner of the lot. I place about ten of these in each of our fire engines and never had a failure.

I have two myself, one for the garage and one for my truck.

Well, there's obviously lots of options. You gotta pick one that's right for you.
With the specs you listed, the Trustfire Cree XML is perfect. I use one at work because its cheap to replace, uses rechargeable batteries, and puts out 3800 lumens. It does not have an adjustable beam, but it creates a very bright flood. I mostly use it for searching areas. Its here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006QQUJ1M/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?ref_=cm_sw_su_dp.

On my belt, I carry an Insight HX200 that I love.

I have another light from WWW.thru night.com that has a really good beam and is seriously bright, but it's a $200 light.

Sadly, Maglite is way behind the lumen curve and their weight is an issue. Back in the day they were cool, but they haven't advanced as much as they should.

I won't buy anything from Surefire as their prices are ludicrous. They have the Dominator light out that is $950 or more and is nothing more innovative than anything anyone else is doing.

Honestly, for what you're gonna use it for, that Trustfire light is the best bang for your buck. There are 3 of those on my squad and we haven't broken one yet.

Just got it delivered yesterday...

HOLY CRAP!! That is one blindingly bright flashlight!!

Thanks for the recommendation!

Haha...Just finished a day at Carlsbad Caverns with the family and some friends. I had the Trustfire and the HX with me.

During a tour of the King's Room, the Ranger was trying to point out something with her wimpy rechargeable MagLite. I just had to help her out with my light. Later on she commented, "Holy crap...What kind of light is that?" Since phones don't work down there, I just gave her the info.

I was amazed at the new stuff we saw with a bright light.

Yeah...that flashlight rocks!!! I'm getting a second one as well...

About how long do the batteries last? When I bring it on my 2 week trip this summer out to Utah and Colorado, do I need to bring the charger...does it have an hour of life? 2 hours? 12 hours? Just curious.

On the highest setting I have burned through a set of batteries in 3 hours +/-. That's why I always keep a second set in my car. Gone for a couple weeks, I'd take the charger...

When I bought mine, I bought an extra set of batteries. When you buy the second light, order an extra set too. They're pretty inexpensive.

Thanks...kinda thought so, but thanks for confirming. Bought extra batteries for both flashlights. This is a pretty inexpensive flashlight for how effin bright is is.

Whoa.

Yup, I bought one for $29 and four rechargeable 18650 batts and charger for $24 (delivered prices) over the weekend and it showed up today. I swear I almost saw my neighbor's tree smoldering a bit... from 75 ft away.

Dang, now I know what to get my bro' for an early Christmas present.

A.J. I just ordered the "torch" today. Looking forward to seeing the results. Was this the light you had when we all walked through Subway Cave last fall and you abused Beemerdon and Bust? It sure was dark when that light went off.

I got two of those flashlights and you gotta watch where you point that thing.

Serious blindness may result.

Haha...No, that was my Insight Technologies light. It's a smaller belt light than the TrustFire. Still, great light output and I love the beam.

That cave was dark, but the trick is to destroy their night vision with a good bright light and then turn it off. Their night vision goes to Hell and they can't see nuttin'. Hell, for all those two idiots know, it coulda been a bear in that cave. So shhhhhhhhhhhh!
