I wonder who will wave at me this time...

I have ridden the great roads in the TN, NC area for the last few years during the Honda Hoot, which starts this week and runs through Saturday.

The first time I attended was on my Gold Wing. I noticed that the other Wings and a few riders of other bikes would wave at me, but most Harley and crotch rocket riders would not.

When I attended the Hoot on my Suzuki Hayabusa, the crotch rocket guys would wave, but most Wing riders and again most Harleys riders would not.

This time I will be on my FJR and wonder who will wave at me? Not that it really matters since you soon get tired of waving after you have met several thousand motorcycles. :blink:

I don't wave at anyone... well sometimes I will wave at a sportbike, but never a wing. Well then there are times I will wave at a wing, but never a Harley.... The only wave I give to the Harley guys is this one :****: . One more thing, whats with those goofy stuffed animals and the goldwingers?? It looks like most have them riding on the back... Smitty

I don't know about the stuffed animals, but one of the guys that traveled with us one year on a Yellow Wing got a Tasmanian Devel painted on the back of his trunk at the Hoot which I thought looked about as ridiculous.

This is a phenomenon I noticed as soon as I got the FJR.

Riding a sport bike, I (and my riding partners) almost always get waved at by other sport bikes, usually waved at by metric cruisers and tourers, half the time by harleys, and almost never by BMW riders.

On the FJR, the BMW riders almost leap out of their seats to wave, cruisers including harleys with saddle bags wave, sport bike riders usually wave.

A passing note regarding BMW's. I stopped at a BWM-Ducati dealer last Saturday to look at apparel and my fiance (on her Kawi 650r) noticed that two different people stopped looking at the BWM's and walked toward the FJR to take a look. She said that they had a look of, "I should go look at those..."

You know what pisses me off these days? Fuckin' Vespa and Burgman pilots wavin' at me like they belong to The Fraternity or sumpin'!

Though that pistachio colored Vespa is quite righteous, especially with the matching helmet! :blink:

I just wave at EVERYONE on a motorcycle. Most of the Harley and Wing guys never wave back. Must be they are STUCK UP or something.

Heck, I'm so used to waving at bikes, I do it from my truck and my car. Like answering the home phone with the office greeting. :blink:

I wave at anyone on a motorycle - even the mopeds. I don't want the guys on the moped forums talking about us like we talk about Harley riders!

I live in the Houston area, and in a part of town where there are many weekend riders on all kinds of motorcycles. Almost all Goldwing riders wave, almost all sport riders wave, and about half the Harley riders wave (even the ones on Metric bikes - I can't always tell when they are coming at me). I do know that many are Harleys - and even many of the custom "chopper" group wave. I think they are just hard-core riders like we are and they understand that we are all in it together.

I think its likely that the Harley riders who don't wave are the white collar baby boomers who simply don't know any better.

I wave at all bikes - however I gotta admit I get pissed when I get closer and see it's a damn scooter! But, what the hell. Virtually all folks wave back. Only funny time was when a whole herd of you know who didn't wave back, must've been 20 to 25 of 'em and not a single one waved. Course by the time I was reaching the end of the herd I was waving like Jerry Lewis!

I don't doubt that if I could come up with some type of hood shield for Wings that could accomodate "MIDNIGHT EXPRESS", I'd have more than a few takers. I know of one in Santa Barbara for sure.

I refuse to wave at Harley riders unless I'm riding my chopper. Then

I might wave if they wave first, but it will be just a slight raise of the

fingers.

If I'm on my Gold Wing, I don't wave at anyone that isn't wearing

full protective gear and riding a Wing. Not much chance of that happening.

On my FJR I just don't wave. I don't care who you are. NO WAVE.

I might nod in your direction if you wave first but that's all. I don't

want to get involved in your personal life so NO WAVE.

If you go around waving at strangers, the next thing, you'll be stopping to

help them alongside the road. That will lead to coffee or a beer and then

you'll be sending each other Christmas cards. Pretty soon, some dirt bag

biker scum will want to date your daughter. How will you feel then?

The local Cops will be profiling your family and your grandkid's will end

up in prison for failing to allow a search of their car. Wave if you want

to, but I'm here to tell you that it's a slippery slope to ruin.

As I need as many friends as I can find, I wave at all motorcycle folks. Maybe its because I like all folks and can talk to a rock or a tree and often do!!

Ah, but PM, the corner wave is the King of all waves... it means you care enough about your fellow biker to relinquish control of your life, risking your very being to give your 2-wheeled brother a hearty Hello!.... Plus, if you read Lee Parks "Total Control" book, you'll see he advocates primarily steering in corners with only 1 hand anyway, so you might as well find something to do with the other one...
