I wonder who will wave at me this time...

I'm working on a mount for one of these

on the side of Frank. Microprocessor controlled, it will sense the approach of a 2 wheeled vehicle, the type of 2 wheeler, and the appropriate response based on type. I expect the SUPERWAVOMATIC® to move well.

OK ,, just something I noticed. On our way back from Rosamond ( Socal)last Sunday -- everyone on a bike waved at us, even the harley guys, until --------------- we got to Fresno (and Norcal), then the harley guys ceased waving

Is this a Norcal/Socal thing??

Debs is the designated waver anyway :)

:bike: Since it is intended more as a I know you there, I wander what folks who do not ride think when everyone one a bike acknowledges the presence of another brother or sister out there swimming in deadly waters.

I know even when I am not on my bike, that it is a way for us all to make people who do not see us see us!

I notice the wave, when in my cager :baaasmiley:

So wave at everyone on these dam body surfers!

I know when I have my feet on the high way pegs more of the HD crowd wave, but I usually initiate it! :****:

I love that feeling, :p of being part of something bigger than just my bikes better than your bike.

Besides if we can make one more person see us out there we are all safer! B)

I like the girls that doI like the girls that won't

I like the girls that will

and ke the girls that won't

But the ones I like the very most

and I know you'll say I'm right

Are the girls that say they won't

but still I think they might.

Benny Hill
Now some they do and some they don't

And some you just can't tell

And some they will and some they won't

With some it's just as well

Supertramp.

I generally wave at everyone, from Harleys to scooters and sometimes even bicycle riders. Most wave back, though the lowest percentage is definitely Harley riders, followed by Wing riders, and I'm generally more likely to get a return wave if I'm on the FJR, as opposed to the XX.

About the only riders I won't wave to are Harley riders sporting that "I'm bad ass" image, mostly because they're the least likely to wave back. If anyone waves at me, I wave back, or at least nod if I'm occupied with the road and/or controls. The ones who almost never wave seem to be the Harley riders in packs, esp. if there are other packs around, as when I'm anywhere near a Harley dominated bike meet (e.g., Garberville, CA 10 to 14 days ago -- BIG Harley get together). I assume it interferes with the image they're trying to project. Funny to see them ignore my wave and wave at the Harley rider 5 cars back of me.

I wave thinking I'm communicating something like "nice to be out riding and sharing the road with another kindred spirit who appreciates this." By contrast, the apparent "grumble, grumble, **** you" of a bad ass riding a REAL motorcycle and ignoring a wave from a rider on a LESSER ricer seems incongrous.

Nah -- they were probably returning south from several days up around Garberville (HWY 101 south of Eureka) and were still deep in the posturing evident there. Sunday, on 395 between Topaz and Tioga (coming and going), nearly all the Harleys waved, and I was on my XX!!!!

I've noticed different brands wave similarly so I've developed my own wave for each of them. Sportbikers will normally nod so they get the same back.

Wingers open their hand without taking it off the handle grip, some go so far as to spread their fingers if their in a really good mood. Their pillions are either asleep or a stuffed animal. They get a nod too.

Lone Harley riders ignore you while trying to look really intense straight ahead, even if their alongside at a stop light . They get the finger. Even if I have to lean way over to get in their line of sight. They still look straight ahead.

Multiple Harley riders- only the last one waves. The rest are all staring intently straight ahead. They all get the finger, the last one gets both of them.

Big formations of Harleys- I wave like a retard that just took top podium at the Special Olympics. Start as soon as they come into view and continue until the last one passes. If they make it that far. Usually someone pretending to stare straight ahead loses it and takes out the rest of the formation. Then they get the over the shoulder finger as I accelerate briskly away. Sometimes while doing a wheelie.

BMW guys are just as oblivious but their pillions are friendly and usually wave. Well, at least the ones that aren't gay and actually have a pillion. I'd wave at them but haven't seen one with a pillion yet.

FJR riders, alone or with pillions always wave. I wave back at them. Often they'll even turn around to chat. We have to do this several times before we hook up because I've turned around too. It gets tedious so I think I understand now why all the others are so stuck up.

Think maybe I'll trade down for a Harley.... ;)

I wave at just about everyone, and usually get a wave back. If not, I either shine it on, or do the jerkin'off thing, depending on my spiritual condition(or lack thereof...).

I have noticed that the wave has changed over the years, from, Just A Couple of Fingers Lifted, to The Whole Dang Arm Up In The Air, which doesn't work well at elevated speeds, to the current, Low Sweeping Motion ZZ Top-style wave. Which is much easier to do with my toothpick arms.

Oh. The Missuz and I both wave like idiots when passing formations of slow riders, whatever their taste.

For the most part 80-90% wave when i do,even Harley riders. The wanna be harley guys don't ,maybe they're afraid I'll notice it's not a Harley and yell "fake", the dp's (polish) don't wave on their sportbikes too often, mainly 'cuz they're the most elite there is  ,and they're too busy squiddin' out. And some ******** on an FJR that NEVER waves back . Oh and by the way for you PC ******* my last name is polish and i used to acknowledge my heritage until I moved up here from the s.side. They will not speak to you if you can't speak polish, onlt the rarest of the rare will.

Hell, here's your typical n.side dp example. Last week I went to the dealer up here for something, pull into the lot and there are two brothers on their bike's w/ gear we talk for a little bit, they suit up to head out and I lock my helmet on the bag. Up rolls this squidly lookin kid, alright 25 or so but i thought maybe 16 at first w/ these HUGE sunglasses, w/ upper arms the size of my so's forearms in the obligatory sleeveless squidshirt. He gets off the bike, looks right at and I said hi, squidly diddly looks for a second and says nothing, just walks away from his CBR600. Ilook at the brothers and ask if they heard me,they said yeah, and there's no way he thought they said 'cuz i was 4-5ft from him. Later as i'm checking out I'm talking to a friend of mine who works there about some funny call I had and this moron walks up to me and starts asking me if Im on CFD, I said yes and he starts telling me he took the recent entrance exam and starts talking as if we're friends or something. I alredy told my friend about the parking lot episode and he's just waiting for me to snap! So, I didn't disapoint him and just said"why are you talking to me? If you can't be decent and say hello back don't ******' talk to me now. You proved yourself an ******* in the parking lot and now i get to be one,go away". My buddy was dying and i turned around and asked him what was so funny,if you're an ******* I WILL treat you as one. I guess this moron comes in and acts all cool talking w/ sales people and acts as if HE's inconvenienced when someone asks a salesman for something, unless they're polish ans is all chummy the.

I guess he heard my last name before during checkout and thought i was a polish brother or something. Stu thought was hilarious 'cuz the moron couldn't take his own medicine,I HATE people like that.

sorry for the length just got carried away. God, did that piss me off though, if you're gonna be an ass be an ass don't think your status will improve w/ me. Especially that incident,if he said he didn't hear me cool, but he acted like i shoulda felt the privilege of his conversing w/ me was enough. :asshat2:

I don't know about the stuffed animals, but one of the guys that traveled with us one year on a Yellow Wing got a Tasmanian Devel painted on the back of his trunk at the Hoot which I thought looked about as ridiculous.

too_many_hobbies

Maybe he was from Tasmainia?

One of my favorite joys on the Feejer is to come up behind some Harleys. Now while I really don't dislike these people...or even the bikes...I still love it...and cant wait to get a 60ft straight away to pass them all with a hugggge smile. ;-)

I get pumped when I see an fjr...hit the cruise...stand up on the pegs and wave with both hands. Actually I dont usually get a wave back...or atleast not one with the appropriate excitment!!

How about waving on the highway in traffic...ive decided to not wave and PAY ATTENTION!!

 Got home recently from a 2,000 mile trip through Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado and waved at boat loads of motorcyclists who all seemed to wave back at me.

Didn't seem to matter if they were on metric bikes, Harleys, Goldwingers, BMW's, crotch rockets, standards, dual purpose bikes. Even saw two other FJR's in Colorado and of course we all waved at one another.

I just try and wave at all fellow bikers and 99% percent seem to wave back.

For the one percent that doesn't I just take it they didn't see me or were in deep concentration over something?
