:yahoo: received an email from Mike Kneebone, I've been accepted into the Iron Butt Association. Mike even had the courtesy to apologize for the delay. Not nessecary for me I've read of the problems they've had this year and the steps they've taken to correct them. Makes the Association and its staff a real class act in my book.

So for 2007, just to insure that IBA stays a viable institution, I think I'll go for an in state SS1000, a BB1500, and a little ride around the great lakes.

Congrats 'Boss!

I got a nice email from Mr. Kneebone when my stuff was late, too. Thankfully that was last year... when things weren't crazy for them.

I'm up for a BBG, Lakes Loop or something like that, too. I plotted a 1K in a day around Illinois, and also plotted a "ferry" route. Lots of fun things to do with IBA stuff.

Waiting for it to warm up a bit. Then, I may run down to Cafe Du Monde for a cup of coffee and back. Anyone interested?

Airboss, when did you do your ride and when did you send the paperwork?
I'm still waiting from first week of september.

Luke,

Settle in and be patient.

I haven't heard anything on mine yet from my ride last July. I received an email last night explaining the cause of the delay and apologizing, and to their credit, they've been very patient and answered my emails very quickly in the meantime, as I would ping them once every 3+ months just to see where they're at.

Luke, mine was July 1, mailed the packet in right away like midweek. It looks like the log jam is starting to break up, maybe you'll get yours soon.

FJRocket, there will be an Illinois SS1000 out of Peoria on June 9, Rick Martin is on this one so it should be "something to behold".

You can check it out on the motorcycle tourers forum.

Woo-hoo! Congratulations!

So what's yer number?

Number wasn't included in the email.

Get to wait for the us postal service to find that out.

You can be sure I'll add it to my sig when I get.

I bet its going to be a big one too.

I got my email today also

For all the waiters I will post here so everyone will be informed as to the goings on

Admins feel free to nix this if you think it inappropriate. but I find it very informative

If possible, we ask your forgiveness with the long delay with your ride documents.

In mid-May we lost our two best ride verifiers. Both had been with us

over 10 years and suffered extreme burn out. When one left, the

other did not want the pressure of breaking in new people at the

height of motorcycle season. It was simply too great a loss for the

IBA to suffer within days of each other. Obviously, we replaced both

within a few weeks. However, this is a very demanding job and more

importantly, as these are important records to us, a job where short

cuts cannot be taken. Unfortunately, over the summer, we had to

hire, let-go and rehire employees until we found the right mix of talent.

I want to let everyone know that obviously I press our staff to

hustle, but I personally review each and every ride before it leaves

so I can also be a big part of the bottleneck as I work a full time

day-job and try to monitor e-mail (even with Ira Agins answering all

the mail that comes in through the web site, I still get 50 to 100

messages per day that I obviously try and route to whom ever can

answer them), various long distances lists and obviously the Iron

Butt Association board at www.ironbutt.org.

On that note, the real value of these certifications are that they

are reviewed. You are not really paying for the 75 cent sheet of

paper. You are paying to know that when you see an IBA plate back

(our default membership card) that the rider you are meeting had to

go through the same intense process your ride went through. That is

what gives the certification real value.

Believe me when I say it would be so easy for us to rip open your

envelope, cash the check and issue a cheesy certificate. But so long

as I am breathing, each ride has to go through the process. That is

why I keep my (very good) day-job. I go to that job day in, day out,

so that I am not tempted to move rides out because I need to make a

living doing this. On the other hand, no one realizes more than I

that we need to work on speeding up the process. I thought the two

replacement employees would serve us all well, but I never

anticipated finding the right mix of people would be so

difficult. The problem on our side is that that I cannot train

someone in how to do a verification in two weeks, so adding last

minute help to get us through a trying period like this is nearly impossible.

Thank you again for your patience with our lengthy process. You are

now part of not only the toughest riders on earth, but a member of

perhaps one of the toughest Associations of which to become a member!

Welcome to the insanity.

Luke,

I did my ride the 2nd week in Sept. on the way to EOM.

I received the same letter and did my ride on July 9 with my pops. They cashed the check back in mid November so the letter was comforting...I can only image how many they have to research!

That letter's the acceptance letter? I thought it was just kind of a "thanks for the patience" type of thing.

In that case, I guess I'll have to keep an eye on the mail, though my check hasn't cleared yet....

Sweet.

Jeff

If memory serves...it's a snippet explaining the delay out of a larger piece that includes acceptance.

I would concur the log jam is starting to break loose. To the first-time recipients I would imagine it is tough, but part of the fact that people don't get lost in the lengthy process tells me it's that thorough of a verification process. Think about how few have actually done one of these rides of all the motorcyclists in the country or world.

Congrats by the way! We'll start the hazing tomorrow.

Still waiting to hear about my post WFO BBG... no emails or other word received to date. Waiting patiently...

The red part is a bit of proof that I'm not as hot on reading comprehension as I'd like to think. .....ummm.....I'm better when they're a packet that's handed to me and I have 24 or more hours to read them....I swear!

I received the same e-mail from Mr. Kneebone yesterday but only interpreted it as an explanation for their in-house delays.... until I got to the last paragraph saying I was now part of the toughest riders, etc. Still left me a bit confused but hope it IS confirmation!!!

BTW - my ride also was in August.

Cheers,

Rich

Congrats to all those who've been confirmed by the IBA. You've definitely earned your membership by having the endurance to ride the ride AND the patience to wait for the approval. :D I applaud Mike and all the other folks at the IBA for their integrity and unwillingness to compromise the certification process.

Personally, I'd rather wait a year than have a certificate that wasn't verified. Besides patience builds character right?

Well I haven't received any E-Mail on my June ride yet......... But I PMed Mike on the IBA Forum a few months ago and he changed my Forum status to "Member" so I took that as a confirmation.
