Florida's tag fees are in weight categories. Move to Florida!!

You won't have to worry any more about all them pesky curves, blind hillcrests, and steep drop-offs. <_<

If'n you gonna have a handle like "BanjoBoy" then you better git yer *** outa school and learn how to say "y'all!"

Kali costs are amazing. If you think the bike is bad, try a 1 ton commercial truck that gets driven less than 1k a year... :****: this state.

Colorado sucks too. when my Dodge 2500 was new in 2001, the plates were $780.00. Our property taxes are pretty reasonable though.

Sonoma County, CA?Are you kidding? If I had a job waiting for me out there, I'd leave this winter wasteland tomorrow!

I wouldn't have to be a Raiders fan would I?
At least not until the current owner dies :D
Ain't gonna happen. The F&*%er made a deal with the devil years ago. Satan's toying with him now though -- with Russell and Cable et al.

Otherwise, you'd be right.

Yeah, we dun got some tasty roads 'round here. (I gotta get my *** up the Skaggs real soon!) Them mountains east of you got some tasty roads too. Some real FJR type roads. Guess that's how the pig government can extort sooo much money outa us, just to exist here. Of course, it never use 'ta be that way. Why I remember when...

When I bought my well farkeled 07 last year for 10.2k, my RI DMV forced me to pay sales tax on a 12.1k value, @ 7% sales tax. Cost me a little over a grand to get on the road. This is in addition to a very healthy local property tax. You left coast guys don't know the meaning of taxes! :dribble:

What made them decide your $10.2K purchase should be taxed at the higher value ? Seems the east coast is bucking for another tea party.

If it's anything like here in NB (Canada?), if it was a private sale, DMV would use a blue red some colour book to determine FMV and levy tax accordingly. And try on a 13% sales tax for size.

And a $3900 tax bill on a $260K property

Ouch - and I thought I had sticker shock here in Portland with US$ 147 for title and plates. Boy it's getting bad down there with the cost of living!!!

I believe NV works in a similar way.

And $3900 on a $260k property is not that bad. We right about that number here in Kali on a $280k property. Of course some of that tax sunsets in a handful of years (mello roos) so depending on assessments that number could go down a bit.

And to the OP... depending on how you do your taxes some of that might be usable as a write-off.

Well up here, I hadta pay 5% tax on the purchase of my bike and I gotta pay $45.45 every year for registration...

BUT!!! it snows at least 8 months of the year! :(

Unless something has changed, there is no tax on resales.

8.25% sales tax on my used FJR in Arkansas.

My property tax is..... $150.00 per year as I qualified for a Homestead Exemption. :yahoo:

Keep in mind that his 700+ bucks included sales tax, it's not just registration and tag fees. He bought the bike out of state.

BTW, how does that work? I though you couldn't bring a non-Cal motor vehicle into California. Or is that why it cost so much, it was a non-CA bike?

I know in the old days there were CA model bikes and 49 state model bikes. I'm not sure when, but I think it was around 2005(?) when the manufactures, figured they'd save money buy make'in all the bikes the same. It was scary, but the seller (A retired cop) assured me I would be able to register it. (He also sold me a bridge in Florida! :p )

I'm sure some of the cost was for a new license plate. In the end it all worked out, and I am one happy rider. :specool:

Well, that was my question. FJRs have CA and non-CA models.

Of course, I don't know (or care) what it takes to get a car or bike into Kalifornia.

Mine is an '05 49 states model I brought in from NV when I moved back from NV. As long as the vehicle has 7,500 miles or more on it, you can register it in Cali as a used vehicle, which only requires that it complies with emissions requirements from the state from which it came, not the Cali emission requirements. Same issue with my '03 XX (when only the Cali model had cats -- mine doesn't).

Since I bought my FJR new in NV, I didn't have to pay any sales (or the equivalent "use" tax) in Cali upon registering it here -- only had to show that I paid sales tax when I bought it.

The XX I bought used in Reno, but because I bought it from a dealer, I had paid sales tax. Same thing as the FJR -- I either didn't have to pay Cali's use/sales tax on it, or the NV sales tax pd was subtracted from the amount the Cali tax would have been. I just don't remember.
