This did start as a thread on accumulated technical data, but quickly devolves into hilarity and pictures that will be used against members in courts of law. Moved to Completely Off-topic Disccusions by Ignacio on 10/5/05...

Expect this to grow over time. I plan to make this a dumping ground of facts and figures we regularly ask....but seem to forget as threads roll into obscurity.

Torque Values

Oil drain plug = ?

Rear drain plug = ?

Spark plug = ?

Why yes! Snug but do not over tighten. And, don't get over tight about it. These items aren't structural! If it don't leak then it is just right.

Helicoils work well, they are just a royal pain in the *** to have to install when it wasn't necessary in the first place.

(from the Service manual)

FWIW, I don't use the torque wrench on these items, I go by feel. Usually about a quarter turn or so past finger tight, enough so that the spark plugs cannot be turned out by hand, and the drain plugs compress their new washer and don't leak. Seems to work for me.

Placeholders my precious................
Ohhh, goose bumps! This is one case where the actual torque values don't mean so much. As you said, "Placeholders!" Such a way with so few words

I just love it when threads devolve. This must be some sort of new administrator hazing.

.....I added a tank bag weapon entry into the original post. Thanks y'all!

Man, if ever I have seen a case for a throttle lock or a cruise. Way more shots in the target. What ever happened to 'Bullets' Barbie?

Looks like we need to have a whole new kind of owners meeting!! I have a couple toys I could bring along.

I was carrying a Colt 380 Pocketlite in my tankbag. A little bitty peashooter, but fits in the bag rather covertly, holster, spare mags and all. Maybe I should start carrying a more serious weapon? 'Specially if I see a big white truck full of knuckleheads out on the flats?
