Only for the sake of clearing up ANY misconceptions, and assuming you "really" don't know what constitutes a "trophy wife" (plus it gives me a chance for a shameless picture placement) if you, me, or any guy on the board, was married to this, she would definitely be the consummate "trophy wife!"

worth another look

who knew RH had taste!

reminder about the "threadjacking" issues in the monthly reports. This thread just spiked it when everyone was doing so well.

Electrical contact cleaner spray- (most auto stores have it- but don't know it- some times called contact restorer- either way it is made to clean electrical connections) use this liberally to clean out all the gunk, then some silicone lube spray sparingly.

Thanks, but I think it's the mechanical part of the switch which is the root cause of my issue, contact cleaner would be a final application after the mechanics was freed.

In my case I'm not worrying overly, my wife is buying me a replacement as a birthday present

(that wasn't the case when I started this topic).

If 'trophy is going to get a new motorcycle because his ignition switch is rough to turn I would think that he is out pounding sand into the switch right now

The electrical cleaner will clean the mechanical parts as well, it is almost like brake cleaner- but not as harsh. (Corrosive?) I was thinking that maybe it was some old dried lube gunk or something caught up in there and binding your switch up.

any hoo- good luck! Hope you get it fixed so you can go riding!

Thanks. It's ok at the moment, so I'm off to Wales tomorrow for a couple of days.

Curiously, the switch had nothing to do with the decision.

I think I correctly understand that it is a coincidence that the ignition switch became an irritation on or around the same time that you're wife decided that you should be gifted with a new motorcycle. My story about the sand and the ignition switch has more panache

So that's the story then, "My switch was a little sticky, so I've she's spent £15534* ** on a new motorcycle to fix the problem".
*$26542 US as of this posting

** Minus the trade-in value of my old one, but that reduces the "panache" factor.

(Edited to correct who's paying the bill.)
