I'm fairly new to this forum and have already seen the oppressiveness of the Mods. I don;t even have an FZ1 any more but I spend more time on that forum than I do here...

Let me ask a question that this thread has me wondering.

Should I manage the complaints from people who get upset because the forum members play hard ball with the newbs and "sensitive fellas" (like those mentioned by BaNJ) or should I manage the complaints from those who prefer to play hard ball?

One thing I considered was a place where anonymized complaints could be posted so it's clear the type of reports and PMs we're getting and trying to address. How about those that track admins down on other forums and spend weeks in endless loops asking the same questions (and getting the same answers); taking hours and hours to try and resolve (only to learn they did the same thing with one or 2 other admins over the previous year before hunting down a moderator and doing it all over again)?

Perhaps something where the complaint can be posted without names named? I'm thinking it might get those handful of folks to slow down a little in their personal (whatever it is). If some of the more outrageous ones were shared, it might be informative for everyone and give pause to those who are so quick on the report trigger.

I've not even floated this by the Admins so right now it's just brain storming and might get my ass handed to me but that wouldn't be the first time.

I think that if the Admins care at all about their members the reactions to this thread will give them the answers they need. I respectfully request that the Admins look at the "popularity" of the members involved and the # of "likes" those posts are receiving here in this thread. If that does not tell you which direction the majority want you to go it at least tells us where you stand.

I will add my praise for keeping politics and religion out of our forum. I agree this is not the place. This forum has given me first class information, made me some wonderful friends and provided endless entertainment. I have always and still do appreciate the work our Admins do in keeping this place running and available to us. But...

There are many members of this forum I truly look forward to meeting and riding with someday. To meet these folks I will have to ride halfway across the U.S., perhaps further. I know that those folks are worth it based on their words, their thoughts, their contributions to this forum.

Based strictly on what I have read on this forum I will do my best to avoid ever meeting the Admins. A more unhappy and unpleasant couple of killjoys I cannot recall. Perhaps these gentlemen are truly wonderful and worthwhile people. They sure don't act like it here.

I sincerely hope that this thread is a wake up for all parties involved. As with most things neither side is completely right or wrong. The sad part is that there are sides and the line between is thick.

"The oppressiveness of the Mods."

C'mon, gimme a break. It's not an Admin's fault when they admonish a member, either in public or in private.

It really is a matter of "live by the rules...or leave by the rules."

I'll miss Wheaties. I miss ANY of the "Oldtimers" who don't like being told what or what not to post. I don't envy the jobs Iggy and Bounce do, but by golly, I'm glad they do it. This place would be 1850-ish Dodge City if it wasn't for the Earp Brothers.

After 10 years on the Forum(s), where things used to be like your neighborhood bar...a community where you shared, cried, played jokes on one another. I'm done with Iggy...and Bounce.
I love the people in this place, but getting timeouts a number of times for silly shit is kindergarten stuff. Coming back from a gathering you organized to find you can't login.

Back in the day, mods were different, and this place used to have a banter...but I guess that the Great Iggy has a no banter rule.

I love the people, hate some of the mods...send me PMs over at FJRiders if you want to talk about upcoming trips or whatever.

Send the complaints to me. I'll handle all of them. It's what I do all day anyway. However, understand that I will not play "let me kiss your butt" with them. I will address the valid complaints, and will forward/ask about a solution when something needs fixed, but the rest....Well, I'll bet most won't complain again. I don't care if they like me or not. You guys know me; I'll let people know how I feel and usually it doesn't bother me if someone likes it or not.

I liken this to a movie or a TV show. I come here for entertainment. If a person does't like a movie or a TV show, they can change the channel. Same applies here. It is free and they have to log on to read most stuff. So, if they don't like it, all they have to do is not log on, or ask an admin to change their password so they can't log on...Like those people who put their own name on Casinos' compulsive gamblers lists: We won't kick you out, but we'll help you leave.

Careful, this one can go both ways.

I too like that religion and politics stay elsewhere. Of course, I'm sick to death of people getting their panties in a twist because a question has been asked more than once.

You need a form for that.

I saw this somewhere around here ages ago, dunno who posted it.

See what you assholes did? You forced Bust to stop drinking long enough to write something that makes sense. Just fucking great. Next thing we know, the Maple Leafs will win the Cup and the Detroit Lions will go undefeated to win the Superbowl. Our lives will be forever altered.
Ok, you lost me with Bust stopping drinking and making sense, but the Lions undefeated and winning the SB? Really? SB?

10 years? It took you 10 years? I had it figured out after 10 posts. Thats why I don't hang here that much anymore. I've met some really cool people here (Ya you guys know who you are) and I still keep in touch. But I don't have the time or energy to deal with the drama and bullshit. So, like others, I have moved on and found other places. Now I am mostly a lurker, cruising silently through the new posts to keep myself updated on the latest tech and whatnot. Like others have said, this aint our sandbox, but that should'nt stop you from enjoying your friends sandcastle.

Dunno about the Lions, but Hell will certainly be sub-zero before the Leafs win the Cup

lotta times I've zipped it on the forum and many other places as well

with years came the realization that I can't keep things from going to hell...

I've been to a few FJR gatherings over the years and have met a lot of amazing people from this forum, including Mark. For those that haven't actually met him, he's as (or more) likeable in person as he is on this forum and a guy that I have a lot of respect for, so it gives me pause to find him upset enough to commit FJRicide. I hope he was just having a bad day and will reconsider.

In an effort to move things in a positive direction, here are the things I like about this place.

* The people - I haven't met a single person on here that I wouldn't sit and share a beer with.

* The technical information is excellent, and not just FJR related. Guys like FredW, Ionbeam, HotRodZilla, and many others give simpletons like me the inside info related to their respective fields. Before I joined FJRforum, I used to think I was smart, now I realize my standards were just low.

* The gatherings/rides. As thankless a job as the mods/admins have here, the same can be said for everyone that organizes an FJR gathering of any kind, be it a ride, tech day or large regional gathering.

* Lack of political and religious B.S. - enough said.

* It's free. I'm sure most, if not all of us could afford to pay for the service this forum provides, but we don't have to. What a deal!
