If you are talking about posting to the forum I do all my resizing in Photoshop. When I crop the photo I use a 10.5" x 8" crop set at 72 dpi resolution. This keeps the file size down to a reasonable level which helps with upload speeds and for most monitors the 72 dpi resolution is fine. If you are going to be printing then you need the higher resolution.

Page 39 in the camera's manual explains how to set the image size. The camera's lowest resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels. I would personally not go down to the lowest resolution with the camera but would rather re-size using something like Photoshop afterwards. It is way easier to lower the resolution and lose some detail than to try it the other way around. If you take a particularly fine photo and want a large print then you need to have a high resolution file available.

Buy a good quality SD card. If you are going to shoot any video with the camera you should buy a minimum 4GB Class 6 card. You need a card with good writing speed.

There is a free utility available called Irfanview that can do quite a bit of stuff with photos. Think of it as a poor man's Photoshop. As Yamafitter suggested, you are better to get a large SD card and take all of your pictures in higher resolution in case you might want a higher resolution for printing or cropping. Storage space is cheap and the FREE utility program will do a lot to manipulate, adjust and resize. There are a lot of freeware/shareware programs out there but this is one of the most popular. Software that came with your camera likely has similar utilities available.

Open Picture

Then Click Image then Resize/Resample

Then pick your options and Save.
