Welcome aboard Griff-man!!!

Yep, that's a pretty good haul. It's a 3 hour ride if you stay close to the speed limit.

But, the time zone change will work in your favor and let you sleep another hour.

In that early morning timeframe, there's a good chance you'll hook some "fuzz-bait" all the way to Indy. Then again South of Indy to Columbus. (play nice on 465 in Indy)

fuzz-bait = fast vehicle willing to go out front to collect the speeding ticket. Like Renegade. :drinks:

uh-oh....

my participation is now shaky ... my wife knew one of the 3 people killed sunday by that ******.

An "intoxicated" driver with two known illegal drugs in his system drives headlong into a group of Victory motorcycles after crossing the centerline and kills 3 of them. He only has to post $4000 bail (which I think means he only needs 10% or $400) to get out of jail!!! I just don't understand...

If I see you I see you. If not, ride safe.

thanks

Its on the front page of the Indianapolis Star (Indy's main newspaper).

just outside of Lagoda (sp?) between Crawfordsville and Indy.

Two lane county highway - typical straight nice Indiana road lined by cornfields, sunny beautiful day, can see for miles in either direction.

Brand new 2006 Victory bike, two up both killed, one life-flighted to Methodist Level 1 trauma died. 6-8 bikes total riding together back from antique car races - nice upstanding people of community. ****** drove right into the middle of the pack.

3 motorcyclists killed in Montgomery County crash

The Associated Press

October 2, 2006 8:03 PM

A car driven by a man who investigators believe was under the influence of drugs ran into a group of motorcyclists on a rural central Indiana road, killing three of them.

Several people were on seven motorcycles on Indiana 234 Sunday afternoon as part of a ride organized by a dealership, said Officer Luther Blanton of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Police.

A car drive by Rodney Newkirk, 24, of Wingate, crossed the center line and crashed into the group, Blanton said. Newkirk was charged with driving while intoxicated resulting in death after his blood tested positive for a drug Blanton declined to name.

A blood sample was sent to the Indiana State Police lab for testing, police said.

Robert Brooksby, 56, of Zionsville, and Maria Shipley, 51, of Indianapolis, died at the scene, about 30 miles northwest of Indianapolis, Blanton said. Another motorcyclist, Michael Bird, 50, of Indianapolis, died after being taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

A husband and wife, William and Donna Belcher of Zionsville, who were riding on a third motorcycle were injured and taken to Methodist Hospital in stable condition, Blanton said.

*** Hat is too kind

Kill 3 people and get off with a DUI charge. :ermm:

Seems like after you run over one person and head for more, a murder charge is in order.

Murder 2, manslaughter, somethin....

Nope, same charge as someone getting caught at a neighborhood roadblock by a breathalizer.

What a f*cked up world.

I hope everyone, including the dealership sponsoring the ride, sues him for damages.

They won't get anything from the loser, but maybe they'll prevent him from getting a car loan for the next decade.

Hope your wife sees this had very little to do with motorcycles and everything to do will a criminal act.

If he hit the same people head-on in a peoplemover van (instead of motorcycles), the results would have been similar. Remember the crash where the dead girl and live girl got mixed up a few months back? Similar scenario, but they were in a van. The survivor was so bad off, family couldn't identify her.

Glad you brought up the time change. Since I live in Central and am going to Eastern (right?), I am actually losing an hour in the morning, so I have to leave an hour earlier. But hopefully there are some nut cases between here and Indy I can follow. I allways seem to find some doing triple digits even. Hopefully see you on Saturday.

Sorry, your right, I was thinking backwards. 9:00 eastern = 8:00 central.

For you Indy experts - going through Indy early Saturday morning:

I never paid much attention, but will it be quicker for me to take 465 around Indy coming from 65 southbound or just stay on 65 through Indy to get to Columbus?

I'm no expert, but we were there last weekend picking up a horse. I would say that the hours you'd be traveling on a Saturday just come straight on through 65.

Now here's one for ya.

HoooHaaa 43 fricking degrees this morning. While not a problem for moi and my Oh So Toasty heated Gerbings... Pillion has no such luck.

I'm inclined to leave her at home, but it will warm up, that I know. But holy ba-jeezus... She's gonna freeze I would think.

I mean we can put layers on her but I dunno.

Pillions? What do you think? We'll be leaving at ~5:30-6:00 am and it's a gonna be chilly-willy.

Griff, I agree with Renegade, just stay on I-65. I commute from the southside of Indy to the northeast side almost every day and I take I-465, but I would take I-65 straight through if my destination was off I-65 north of Indy. Besides, there won't be much traffic eartly Saturday. FYI, it will take just under an hour (if you obseve the posted speed limit) to get from the intersection of I-65 & I-465 on the north side to the Columbus exit.

Renegade, my wife already informed me that she won't be joining us due to the cold. I can't quite fit the 200,000 btu heater on the bike to keep her snowmobile suit warm enough.

By the way, were you on SR135 near Story, IN last Sunday around 3PM? I passed someone on an FJ that looked like you (if I remember correctly from the EOM).

Tomorrow will be half a dozen degrees warmer.

Yep, I'll have the saddle bags for sheading layers.

Angela will be there, but she's a veteran pillion. She's knocked frost off her seat before.

If yours doesn't have the stuff to layer up, she might reconsider.

Warm boots and winter gloves will help a lot before the sun comes up. ;)

Girls get to wear tights too.

Nope, wasn't me... Wish it was though...

My wife is game, she really, really wants to go and meet some of the folks, don't know why...

She'll layer up, no doubt.

We'll put full baggage on for taking layers off, It's her call.

Through Indy on 65 it is. And, oh boy, I get to use my Gerbing jacket and gloves! Supposed to be 41 here in Crown Point at 5:00 tomorrow morning. See you guys at the Denny's just west of 65 on 46, right?

Have fun Griff...you guys should have a good ride :clapping: :yahoo:

Oh my what a day....

Thanks to Quick and Mrs. Quick for putting this together.

(Especially Mrs. Quick for gutting it out with a cold so my wife wouldn't be lonely). :clapping:

The day was perfect, great roads, great company.

I think we had 7 bikes 6 FJR's + the BMW I dragged along is that right?

It was mighty chilly this morning, wifey learned the value of heated gear, and now understands where that $300 went.

:yahoo:

Let's do it again in the spring!

Renegade: Enjoyed meeting you and the other Feejers. Thanks to Quicksilver for organizing the ride. Maybe give it another shot this year before it gets too cold.

Mrs. Quicksilver said it best,

"We always seem to meet the nicest people on FJRs."

Thanks for the pics! Very cool. :)

I always feel like I got away with something, when I ride with a new group and everyone rides a safe skillful ride. :yahoo:
