...I've never heard of linked system that has not been combined with ABS.
Gold Wings have had linked brakes from the 1983 GL1100 Aspencade onwards...
From the late 1970s -- on, Moto Guzzi has employed linked (hyd.) brakes on many of their motorcycles.

(generally thought of as the 'first' modern motorcycle to offer "linked brakes")

In the 'Nothing New Under the Sun' department: the 1930 Matchless Silver Arrow had linked f/r mechanical brakes.

(neither had ABS, thank you... )

Dealer says they were linked - Ummm OK, service guy obviously doesn't know the FJR that well.

Did they fix the issue? Do your rear brakes now work? What was the reason the rear brake stopped working?

More info please...

My 49 BSA B33 has anti lock brakes. No matter how hard you try... :)

Gen I brakes aren't linked, and I wouldn't want any tech that thinks so working on mine. To further pile on Skooty's misstatement -- Honda Blackbirds' LBS is another example of a linked brake system without ABS.

This is weird.

They bled the rear brakes. There was virtually no brake pedal pressure at all. OK, I get all that.

However, I have all steel brake lines. At the rear brake actuator, there are 3 ins/outs. One rubber line from the brake reservoir, & 2 steel lines out. One goes to the rear brake assembly, the other looks to be routed forward to the left front caliper.

I just went out to take a look at my 04's rear set-up, but forgot I rode the ZRX today. Dayum!

However...and this is a stretch...are you SURE your 04 is a non-ABS model? I can't think of what reason that other line is for except to go to the ABS pump under the right side-cover.

Go take us a picture of the right-side of your rear wheel, slightly off-angle from straight-on to the brake disk.

Sort of like this angle:

The arrows are pointing to the ABS sensor "wheel" and the item circled is the actual ABS sensor.

I'll looked under the cover to make absolutely sure. Nothing there but my fuse box & the fluid reservoir.

Anybody out there with an '04 that can check theirs?

Okay, here at two parts-fiche pictures of an ABS non-ABS master cylinder assemblies.

With ABS, 3 hoses...

You've got me stumped. 04's were never linked.

ok...am officially creeped out now

i suddenly have an overwhelming urge to wash my bike LOL
After all this time that finally creeped you out?
weird, ain't I?

johnny80s: Send Barb the photos of you and dj bill pork sword fighting last year on the Mount Palomar ride, that will send barb into a Catholic Convent! jes' sayin' and nuff' said!

Your parts diagram shows the whole system. On my 04 abs there are only two lines actually attached to the master cylinder - one coming from the reservoir, and one going out to the ABS pump. The third line which you don't really see when looking at the master cylinder is the line going from the ABS pump to the rear caliper.

Stephen - are you SURE that both those lines are hydraulic lines coming out of the master cylinder? That just doesn't make sense.

Stephen, here's your picture, annotated.

Line "A" is the brake line going back to the caliper...

Line "B" is the line going to the reservoir...

Line "C" is what you're wondering about? If that truly is a brake line, beats the hell outta me.

Maybe someone with an 04 can snap a pic and explain what "C" is. As I said, don't have my bike here to compare.

Didn't you just go out to look at a bike that you left at home today?
No, jerkyboi, just grabbed a picture off the forum. Sheesh!
