The U, being all Green and ****, is having an "alternative" vehicle symposium, with a bunch of the latest offerings in supposedly enviro friendly transport. 2 just arrived, each brought here on a trailer behind a 1 ton Dodge with a chipped Cummins, apparently being unable to make the entire journey from 20 miles away under their own power. I mean, how cool is that? Keep political replies, if any, to yourselves, please ;) :p

Or end somewhere. 2 more just arrived, Powerstroke and Duramax, respectively. Shop sure smelled green for a while.

It smelled green 'cause the trucks burn old deep-fryer grease. Riiiiight.

Did anyone else see Chevy's Volt PR stunt last month? The little electric sports car couldn't even make it up a shallow incline; 3 GM marketing guys had to push it back to the trailer, pulled by a 8mpg semi.

Priceless.

Local mass transit have been converted to soy diesel. The reason you see so many heavy people getting off the bus is every time I get behind one I have a craving for french fries.

I love irony.
It's purpose is to educate.
Got the typin' arm back in gear I see. Good for you!

UPDATE-

12 of 'em in the shop now, saving the whole thing are several diesel and gas Mules-and one little Hung Chow LTD Brougham 4cyl gas pickup-with a 5 speed but no VIN, and OFF ROAD ONLY stickers all over it. Speedo only goes to 30, but it must be governed, judging from the nice 4 thou burn out I just did across the shop. B) I'll try and toss some pics in here tomorrow.

I keep seeing commercials for cars that get 33mpg. I could get that kind of mileage in the 1980's, Civics should be getting 45mpg by now.

Depends on the weight. Civics are bigger nowadays.

We had an 02 Corolla that got 40 mpg with careful driving.

I've been having this argument on a few fora, mostly in regards to the gov't-subsidized Prius. It's not that I don't like the Prius, and I *love* the idea of hybrids... it's just that I'm really disappointed with the final product.

Both of these cute little puppies (HF and diesel) were getting ~50 mpg in the '80s or even late '70s for the Rabbit. People have informed me, unnecessarily, that neither car will pass safety or emissions standards today... yet the 2008 Ford Expedition does! So far no one has explained to me how 30 years of "progress" has led from the 50 mpg Rabbit diesel to the 10 mpg Excursion. :glare: [/rant]
