Is it Me, or Bags Difficult To Latch?

If the latch is stiff even when closing an empty bag, try spraying some silicone lube on the moving parts. Also put some silicone grease on the seals of the bags. Following a road trip and after cleaning the bike, I do this proceedure. My 07 bags close easily.

I love the FJR but I sold my stock hard bags, on the bike I have nylon touring bags that load from the top and expand, this way I can actually manage to haul 4 bags of groceries home and don't have half of them falling out when I open the bag. Also high on my pet peeve list is the lack of smoothness on the inside of the hard bags that put a chip in my favorite Arai.

So, you can put an XXL helmet in your bags without a scratch and you can haul 4 bags of groceries?

I can...or at least the helmet unscratched and 3 bags of groceries anyway. And I can lock it up too at each stop since I may get one bag of groceries, one bag from Home Depot, and one bag of **** before returning home!

No groceries here.. Why waste Home Depot and **** space? And I've yet to chip a helmet in the top or sidecases.

If I did? Felt lining is purdy cheap.

It's just the bags, it isn't like I'm suggesting the FJR stinks and we should all go back to riding RD350's (Mine fouled it's left plug so often I bought them by the gross).,

Don't you know? You aren't allowed to have any different opinions around here.

No, no, no... The hard bags are officially sanctioned as a highly desirable feature of the FJR1300.

Now toe the line, mister!

Haha...All I'm saying is that if a helmet got chipped inside the bag that's user error...Not the bag. Hell, if you wanna put paper bags on the side of your bike, I'm good with that.

Hey no fair where did you get my pic? The next thing you'll be disclosing the location of my secret booger burrial ground on the carpet of my car, Doh!

Honest, i disliked the stock case. .

1. A case that requires me to put my stuff into a bag or it will fall out when it is open, yeah brilliant!

2. So now I have to rat through the bag to find something in the case!

3. A case that seems far larger on the outside than the volume it can hold given it's oddly shaped 'hex' inner space, I don't think it's even half a cubic foot.

4. A case that has some fairly substantial connecting hardware that sticks into the inner space, and given the hinge direction it's an iron maiden just waiting to stick something.

5. What I need the damn key again and I didn't want it locked at all!

6. Yeah, I had to put extra rubber shims in there to stop it from vibrating.

7. These are awkward, hard to carry, and heavy off the bike, like suitcases designed by the Marquis De Sade.

8. These just don't hold enough I need a topcase too, heck, maybe I should get me a trailer and a certificate from diesel driving school.

It's been 3 years since I went to nylon, these are only the pet peeves that persist.

Besides someone gave me $400 for the stock bags and I used the dough to consume every exotic beer I could find at the Capital Market!

Now compare that to the case on

I'm inclined to agree, the FJR cases could be significantly better.

The double-wall construction is a space hog and makes the cases far heavier than they need to be. The fact that the lids are merely glued on and will (and have) flip open and drag on the ground is ludicrous. That they can fall off at will is horrendous. That they cost as much as they do is stupendous. And then there's the fact that they do make the bike's *** look fat, too.

Although they are also no visual treat, I do recall the rectangular cases on my old 2001 Connie 1k to have been quite superior performance wise. Same with my old '94 BMW oilhead R1100RS. For that matter a good set of Givi panniers like their modern V35 side cases would be fine with me, and considerably bigger capacity.

But I don't really think I could live with soft cases on a regular basis. Lack of anything approaching security for the contents would be the primary deal breaker, and lack of waterproofness would finish the deal.
