Wondering if anybody else is experiencing the same issue I have with Speed TV and their picture quality. Since late March/early April I get digital goofs like frozen pixels, and once in a while I'll get a frozen frame for a second, followed by a color frame for another second, then the picture resumes. Sound is unaffected.

I've sent this to Speed without acknowledgement, not even an automated "Got your note we'll look into it when we can be bothered."

I'm trying to track down whether it's a Speed problem or a cable provider problem. My brother says he gets it in Pensacola, on a different provider.

Sometimes it's worse than other times. We may go several days and never see it, but today it's made the MotoGP unviewable, happening every few seconds. (I'm looking for a download somewhere, so don't mention results in this thread, please.)

Sample vidcaps. Pixellation:

I've just realized looking at these (as opposed to trying to watch a race broadcast) that the color freeze is the very left edge of the frozen frame painted across the screen.

Happens in commercials as well, but not locally inserted commercials (those masterpieces from your local Chevy dealer). Local weather has nothing to do with it, either. Can't correlate to storms or anything making it worse. Actually, its gorgeous (but HOT) today.

So. You get crap like this on Speed, or is it just us lucky Florida boys?

I take it that you are on cable. I am in the UK on satelite and had problems for years as my dish points at the flight path of incoming aircraft to Manchester airport.

Almost every time a plane came in the picture would freeze and stutter for a while, when it came back it would be out of sync with the sound. It would be cured by flipping up and back down channel. A new dish and re-tune has cured it.

Could be your cable provider. I've noticed this sort of thing on various channels from our provider. I was wondering if there was a bandwidth issue between the cable provider and the channel service.

I have DirecTV satalite, and I TiVo all of the races. I just watched the MotoGP race that you tooks pics of and saw no video flaws other than the normal on-board video glitches. I paid special attention durning laps 2-4 and didn't see the glitches you photographed. Speeds video quality is markedly lower than that of the local comercials to be sure.

Well, Silent's answer points me to my cable company, but since my brother sees it in a different town on a different provider, I wanted to try to make sure.

+1 on Dish Network in Ca. works well. I think the issue would lie with your providers dish if your on cable. Their signal is glitched. I have had similar issues only twice in two years with the dish I use but the problem is simply corrected by resetting the DVR to correct any signal issues. Weather, sunspots/solar activity and trees or dish alignment are the usual culpret for signal loss on a dish that can produce the symptoms you describe. PM. <>< :D

If you want to really see how truly annoying this is, have a look at this.

What with it being a short clip of Speed, it might get yanked for copyright. Especially as it's not very flattering to someone somewhere in the signal chain.

The freeze-frames are obvious, but there are some "sparkley" pixelizations at :59 and 1:14 that are not part of the Youtube compression, they are in what I had to watch.

Like I said in the first post, this has been ongoing since late March or early April. Live shows, taped shows, episode shows, commercials, everything. But not the locally inserted crap. That says downlink or decompression to me.

I get that every now and again on the HD channels of my Cox service. Have not seen it on the digi or lower tier channels.

Edit: After looking at your video, I'm gonna wager that it is not your cable or Speed. It's the ****** FIA feed. That happens during F1 broadcasts too. I have no idea why the Euros can't broadcast a decent signal, but it sucks about as much as their announcers, direction and general broadcasting.

Sorry, feejer, but you know it's true. ;)

I BEG TO DIFFER!!!

Seriously, anything shown here that is shot in the US from sport to movies or sit coms seems lower quality (especially sport). It must just be a difference in equipment. You can tell instantly when you tune to a channel and its an American filmed programe.

As for direction, that is a bone of contention here. It depends on which country the show is from. As the MGP and WSBK comes from a different country every time the quality of direction differs a lot.

Our race announcers are 2nd to none. However I don't believe that you get them in your coverage as no-one has ever mentioned them on here.

Julian Ryder and Toby Moody. They always have masses of accurate inside information and historic facts to hand. B)

Oh, yes... the epitome of broadcasting when at key moments your F1 Brit commentator comes up with, "Lookit dis! Lookit dis!" Yes, truly brilliant broadcasting.

Though I will say that your chaps are better than the South American soccer announcers: "SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

OOOOOOOOORE!

Yes, I'm in Orlando, and I think it's the ****** cable company. I get blocks and pixelization on SpeedTV, Discovery Channel and NASA TV. On NASA TV, when they show a still or a graphic, it's all fuzzy for about 3 sec then suddenly gets sharp.

Sometimes when SpeedTV comes back from a commercial, the picture fades in as blocks. It's not just MotoGP, it's all their programming. For me It's Brighthouse Cable. A friend has Dish and it's MUCH better.

I wonder how to file an FCC complaint? I hear stations getting fined because one or two people complained about the language or something.

I definatlty didn't see those glitches on my screen from DirecTV. I would think it's your cable provider. Or your providers provider. wich could explain whey you and your bro both get it on different providers.

The crap you're talking about used to happen to me all the time. It was corrected by changing a bad splitter on the dish.

DirectTV here. No problems.

Mom has Dish and had some of what you're describing. Called Dish and got a local contractor out to realign her dish after a week of 50+ mph wind gusts.
