I'm assuming a PCIII or PCV install is on the site somehwere and not too difficult? Bin-o-facts? I have had the ECU mod done on the bike but that's it as far as any type of throttle help. I just rolled over 4K on it so it'll be going in for the first service this week.

Thanks for all the input, with minimal highjacking.

So, going off of IonBeam's post, I'm going to say I need a PC. Seeing as both units are about the same price (give or take)(unless I add the Auto-Tune), Im guessing I should probably just spend the extra few $$ and get the PCV. This throttle shit is driving me up a wall; I cant have the fun in the twisties like I want.

However, in the mean time, I will order up a G2 and adjust the CO via the Barbarian how-to.

Anyone think I'm on the wrong track?

I have two 08 AE's, one with a PC and one without I have found the PC is NO help. Keeping the slack in the throttle cable to a min. and taking some of the spring tension out of the throttle is all that is needed. Also staying in 1st or 2nd gear will make the situation worse. The bike has plenty of torque so using a gear higher than you would normally use may also help smooth things out.

 Oh shit! This is gonna get ugly, dude. That's not Frankenstein.....it's a photo of Howie after he was attacked with a 2x0!
BWAH!! Shit, Doc...that was laugh-out-loud funny! Thanks for the big grin.

My Frankie avatar is what I hope to look as good as when all the surgeries are done. I'm a seriously ugly fooker.

Frank is to honor my resurrected 04 FJR that suffered catastrophic cam chain tensioner failure back in early 09. It took the largesse of the FJR Forum community and the 03 motor from Forum Member Grumpy's wrecked bike to bring life back to mine. That's why he's affectionately known as "Frankenbike", hence the avatar.

But Tree Doc's answer suits me JUST fine. :) :) :) :) :)

It's Alive!!!

Warning: Click the above link at your own risk.

You will be exposed to shockingly stark and gruesome photos.

(Yes, I'm talking about those photos in the first linked post.)

For the (real) full saga of Frankenbike you would have to sift through about 2 years of Howie's topics detailing the demise and resurrection of his beloved bike.

PS - Howie doesn't mean to belittle and harass AE owners with his comments.

He disdains all 2nd gens equally... ;)

Hey rick, would you say that money is more wisely spent on getting the PCIII instead of the G2?
Sorry for the late response - I haven't been to this site in a while. The G2 did nothing in terms of fixing the problem. I'd spend the money on a PCIII or PC-V

On the issue of PCIII or PC-V, I believe the price difference between the PCIII and PC-V was only about $10. Since the PCV can have two maps, I thought it was worth it. I think the PCV has many extras that you can get with it as well, but I'm satisifed with my setup. With the ability to hold 2 maps, you can always test out a new map easily, or do like me and keep one economy and one smoothness map. Both far better than stock setup, IMHO. I got mine at Fuelmotousa.com. Great folks and very knowledgeable on the Power Commanders.

Rick

The G2 throttle tube and the spring release on my 06 FJR , did bloody nuthin to help the jerky throttle , its all BS or ppl with a good imagination or most will say " um yeah it helps " BS it helps

in fact unwinding the throttle spring made the bike worse to ride

I fixed my throttle by trading it on new FJR last year , throttle all fixed

The bloke that bought my 06 FJR , hates the bloody throttle and its still got the G2 tube fitted

He got the dealer to hook the spring back up at his first service

Dunno about a PC3 never tried one , but I will say at least from 09 on FJR throttles are like they all should be

Don't ask me about Yamaha Top Boxes even the you bute strengthened one

Well, I picked up a G2 and a used PCIII for my '07. I'll be installing the tube once my dual star grip wraps and BMW sport grips arrive. Following that I'll be installing the irridium plugs and doing a carb sync. If the bike is still running funky I'll install the PC. If the the bike STILL runs shitty....I'll just sell it and get back on my BMW

Thank you, and have a nice day.

Coming out of a slow 90 degree turn this morning in 2nd gear and I gave her a little throttle. The bike gave me quite a jerk as the word 'smooth' doesn't seem to be in its' vocabulary. Will the G2 throttle tube help with this or does it require a Power Commander? Any tips on just living with it??Thanks.
Was my sentiments exactly when I first got the FJR...Have grown accustom to this quirk and now smooth. Be interested if there is a remedy thou..

Willie
Definitely made a HUGE difference on mine as well. Worth every penny

When these don't work for you... Can I have first dibs on the Power Commander?

what?...oh thanks for the best wishes mang. BLEH!!!
Good luck w/the TB sync and all the other things you may try, but simply put... If you are THAT unhappy with the performance, I doubt these "tweeks" are going to get you grinning.

It sounds like you have one foot out the door to the BMW shop, and If a new Beemer is what it takes to get you grinning. You should quit throwing money at the FJR. Maybe sell it here cheap! ;)

I'm not real sure what kind of response you expect when you to "threaten" to give up on the FJR and switch to a Bemmer? But, I suspect it will mostly result in Go be happy, and don't let the door hit you in the wallet.

Anyway, Goodluck "Meng?"

P.S. I'd still like first dibs on the PCIII

I'd recommend doing one tweak at a time....that way you can judge which one has the greatest impact on the problem.

If you throw everything at the bike all at once, how are you gonna really know what the problem was?

And I'd suggest putting in the new plugs and doing the carb sync first. Then, if the nastiness goes away, you can get your money back on the G2 and PCIII.

Just so that you realize, a PCIII doesn't do anything all by itself. You need to have an appropriate map loaded for your bike. You can toss the PCIII if you want, afterall, it's your money. But if you could not feel any difference in drive-ability with it, I'm thinking you probably didn't get it set up right
