Been doing some TSD calculations from the SPOT tracks and, if even close to being accurate, he's , ahem....making up for lost time in a big way
So how does that work at IBA headquarters?... Do those times raise eyebrows, or do they just rubber stamp the documentation and send him his patch?
The IBA will just certify him for completing the UCC but not acknowledge a "record" since that would mean it was a race and go against their safety protocol. Mike Kneebone has made it clear this is not an IBA ride other than being a UCC (within 30 days).

Man... That sure reads like an ad for Metzler.
Ah-yep. It is an ad for Metzler, probably compensation for the tires they provided for this run. As Randy correctly observed, Metzler did this ad for many motorcycle sites throughout the 'Net.

I don't see anything different with this than with BMW/Ducatti, other manufactures touting things that have happened on their bikes.

Didn't Ducatti do a press release when Egan did his UCC? I think they might have, if I recall, they also provided a bunch of prep work to his bike or bikes...

Truth be told, I may have to try the Interacts. As much as I like the PR2's, they seem to be flat-prone on my bike. But looking at them, I don't like that 'no-tread in the middle design, which leads to spontaneous cord exposure' :) but would be interested in what kind of mileage can be expected from them. Granted just about any tire would have taken John 5500 miles.

Did he start in Prudouh with a brand new set?

That first 1k miles would have been the toughest on the tires no?

What did they look like in the end?

I only dislike that they try to disguise it as a news article. I don't mind them touting the achievement in regular advertising.

Only if you ride in the middle a lot.

Jus' spend more time on the sides... :p

Don't quote me on this, but on John's first attempt up the Haul road he suffered a flat and had to turn around to get a new tire in Fairbanks. I believe he had new tires put on in Minot, ND. Not sure how they looked at in KW but I'd expect they have a few miles left on them.

Similarly, Mr. Eagan has had both Ducati and Avon as sponsors for some time. I have one of the full page Avon ads that appeared in various MC publications touting his UCC record.

First, congratulations to John. I've been watching this season's "Ice Road Truckers" as they take on the Dalton. That has to be a hell of a road in the summer!

As far as the Metzeler's, my 08 came with the Z6's as stock fitment. I replaced the front tire at 13675 miles because it had started to cup; the rear tire is still going strong, though a bit flattened in the middle due to all the commuting I do.

I'm gonna be watching for wear and function reports on the interact tire used since I'm always open to trying new tires that seem promising. I like PR2s so far the best but they are only ones I've had since the OEM BT021s (front was not good and rear wore too fast).
