Mark: Cell data coverage is very pricy in Canada - and not good off the beaten path either, hence not a lot of navigating by cell. Check with your carrier and see if you can get a decent plan for the time you'll be north of the 49th...
Thanks Dave...was just hoping for some cell weather radar. I will be using the GPS to get lost.

Hi Barb: Mark and Louanne are planning to arrive here that afternoon so why don't you and Norm plan to spend that night here too? I will lay in a few extra Tall Timber ales - just in case! I don't know if any of the PNW guys are planning to escort the Wheatons to our place, but we do have spare beds if so - JS&NS!
I'll be talking Normie in to this...........

The offer is out there PieMan and Master Plugger - come on up, that way the Wheatons won't need a map!
I feel a happening coming on........

One question: What's the best place to get a BC paper map?
tell me what kind of detail you want and I'll go shopping and snail mail it out to you

Now, I have no idea what I'm talking about, but my weather radar comes from NOAA, a bureau of US government, through an internet browser. Maybe our radar beams stop at the border to avoid war with Canada; maybe NOAA doesn't care if it rains in Alberta; maybe Homeland Security keeps that data to themselves to predict wheat harvests ....

Sometimes my paranoia knows no bounds.

On the other hand, this may be useful: https://www.weather.gov/Radar and select from the mosaic sectors under the national map. Once you have selected your sector, turn on "Base Reflectivity Loop". The maps do stop at the Canadian border.

You can select a more detailed thingy near the bottom: "Select Radars by State". The Seattle option shows a little past Pemberton, BC. Oh, what the hell. Here's the Seattle link. Click me!

there are radar maps available for BC, but in my personal experience, they aren't always accurate

4 years ago I was leaving the Okanagan Valley in mid-Sept, weather forecast and radar both favorable; sun and clear they stated, to be exact.

10 miles in to my ride from Kelowna to Merritt there was a couple inches of wet snow and some decided seat pucker moments on my way to the next warm valley

don't get me wrong, more info is better than less, but I think there is a point where techy overload leads to overconfidence where common sense and experience is more valuable

my 2 cents

I think if I'm in Jasper, I will just phone Dave and ask him if there be any typhoons heading east.

Ya know Panman. That would be great...I'll take you up on that. Just mail it to G...I'll pick it up at his house at the same time I pick up my 13. I presume G will make sure the battery is nice and charged while scuffing in the new skins I'm putting on. :)

Ya know somethin Wheaty old boy sir, you will get it one of two ways. In person or a little 45 Min ride out on some great little back road's to see my tire changing, shock rebuilding someone I never want to lose never contact with good dam friends. Besides if he is scuffing tire, I want to be following as he is one smooth rider!

Dang, that is sad two weeks without the FJR.

I did bring the Map out and leave it with G Sunday enjoying the back roads both ways!

Hopefully we will be reunited on July 8th and the fun can begin.
Yeah, sad; we understand. Addiction can be a cruel master. Surely some excitement sneaking through the sadness?

My '13 FJR is the best of my three good FJRs. I hate to see her go...even for a planned departure. Who knows what's happening on that truck. I mean, a BMW could accidentally rub up against her...oh, the horror!

I won't be happy until I've gotten everything out to G's place and everything sorted back around for riding two up. New rubber, shiny FJR, and wifey and I going to places we've never been.

Think I saw it up on Roan Mountain today. The van was nearby, they were probably on a lunch break.
