I know Harley riders sometimes get a bad rap around here, but they're not the only ones. Riding home from work today I was stopped at a 4 lane stop light. I was in the far right lane, and next to me is some dude in a Star, Road Star with obnoxious pipes. They had to be straight pipes because they were ear splitting loud, of course he was riding in shorts a Tshirt, tennis shoes and one of those half helmet things. He was staying right with me in traffic, if I would speed up, he would speed up, when I backed off, he did likewise. I'm not sure if he was trying to impress me or what.

I really don't get the loud pipe deal. Evidently these guys are insecure in their manhood.

Some like them loud some don't. Just like some guys like fat women. I for one do not like the stock pipes on any bike. I do not like the as loud as a lot of HD riders like them but I want some bark when I take off not just a whine.

Man, somebody HAS to make a helmet or bumper sticker of that one.

FWIW, I have the stock, quiet pipes on my FJR, but have shortened the can on my R6 to reduce some back pressure and allow it to rev a little more freely and to reduce weight. It is not the ear splitting obnovious loud of some.

There are certain engine designs that just do NOT need to be louder, and one of those is a Japanese cruiser engine, if possible, worst sounding than a open piped HD.

+1
I have Two-Bros pipes on the FeeJ, they are louder then stock to sound nice but not loud enough to be annoying. No one has yet complain to me about my bike being too loud. Most have complimented how they sound.

Duc's are exempt, my fav. They sound awesome.

Only one time I heard a Duc so loud and sounded so poorly was at the track. I think the guy thought the louder the bike the faster it went. I actually think it was POS but he had to make up for it some where.

Lets just say that I can't sneak up on anyone when I'm riding the duc...

Yeah, but you have as much noise coming out the intake as the exhaust :p
And the clutch! Dont forget the clutch!

Check out the the rear of this Harley Sportser. None too popular in that crowd. But then this guy is a *rider*, vs. a *biker* and took 3rd place in the 2007 IBR. His family owns an H-D dealership also. Good guy.

Yeah, I'm not against aftermarket pipes, just the earsplitting obnoxious kind that do nothing to add performance, but in fact probably degrade power. I like the sound of nice pipes.

What no mention of them damn teenage econoboxes with a soprano kazoo for a muffler blowing a droning counterpoint to the mandatory tasteless, godawful, bass heavy, moronic, non original, hastily constructed, lyrically inane, microencephatitic, brain dead musick while furiously text messaging, eating a fast food fried rat, playing with themselves, and trying to look cool.

WHATJUSAY? SPEAK UP DAMMIT..CANT READ LIPS ON THESE THINGS...WHATHESAY? I CANT HEAR NUTHIN ON THIS CHANNEL.....KRAAAP....

Way to represent. Now there's some tool on a cruiser thinking he can keep up with a Beemer....

Nice...

I've had more than a few people ask me if my FJR is a beemer. Usually I say no...

One time I was at one of those gas stations with the bathroom on the outside of the building, you know, where you have to get a key attached to a miniature baseball bat or something from the attendant to get in to the bathroom. I go into the bathroom, and it's absolutely trashed. Totally disgusting. Like 2 rival gangs of monkeys just had it out in there...you get the picture. I take a piss, stumble out into the fresh air, and go back and return the key. I'm getting back on the bike, and the attendant comes out with the bathroom key, a broom, and a bottle of windex. He sees my bike, and he's like, "Is that a BMW?"

I said "Heck yeah!" Before riding off, so now there's some gas station attendant who thinks beemer riders are real jerks...
