Not crazy about your 05 blue....hate it, in fact, but an even-up trade and a case of rattle-can paint and we're good to go!

Racetech front end, Ohlins' suspenders out back. Aftermarket ignition advancer, Muzzy Meg w/full system headers, Sargent seat.

Not quite the storage the FJR has, but here's what you can put under the seat:

I used to keep two sets of cans for my FJ1200- stock and hogged out Cobra slipons. I was Jekyl or Hyde depending on which was on the bike-get some loud slipons and cut down a shield..

 
Man........ how hard is this to pass up? That color alone makes me want to pay you to trade with me! :yahoo: I had a ZRX 12 for a few months when they were new (98ish) Thought I would sell my XS11, but after 2 months of the XS not selling and comparing the two, I sold the XRZ. A great bike, just not good enough...... Sold it in a week for $200 more than I paid, so it was fun. But, alas, I must decline. I have made a decision though.

UPDATE:

Well after a few weeks of serious consideration I have decided to keep the FJR. It's paid for, does EVERYTHING I ask of it and more, is IMHO, the best all around riding alternative, and I really do love it. Last week a freak thunderstorm rolled in, I hopped on the FJR and ride home barely wet, all my stuff dry in the saddlebags, and did so comfortably in a bike that runs like a scalded cat, the ultimate in super sport touring.

So. what to do with the itch? I'm gonna try 3 things over the next year.

1. Upgrade the shocks and springs in my XS and ride it more (new progressives, maybe a bit shorter than stock, and new fork springs fluid in front)

2. New Cans on the FRJ. I never really liked the sound of the two brothers (or look) so I am looking to upgrade/change out the exhaust.

3. If these two things dont settle me down, I will buy a Motoguzzi 1200 Sport. I've ridden a V-Max and a Guzzi Breva, and totally loved the Guzzi............ WOW. Of the models I have seen/looked up, the 1200 sport is the one I like most. Could never replace the FJR, but If the wife lets me keep all 4 bikes (the 750 is technically hers) and the Cutlass, great, if not, well, something will have to go, not sure what, but it wont be the FJR, it offers too much. I really think upgrading the XS suspension, and riding it regularly will satisfy the itch.

I really think what has happened is this new XS750 triple, with its wierd engine sounds and feel, a new brake and suspension is so different, and brings a fresh perspective, that it reminded me I need a change. But the power is way off, and is really too small for what I want. So upgrade/improve the XS11 bring it up to speed in suspension and exhaust, and I should be good to go. I worry a bit about things breaking (afterall it is 31 years old and has 120K miles)

If you wanted something kind of outlandish but totally workable a Suzuki B-King can be bought for around $8000. It is a standard. Pillion seat kind of small but would be fun to ride.

Suzuki maybe releasing a 2011 version in UK with diffent paint schemes.

I am finding myself in a similar situation. I never got to do the long rides I was expecting to and wifey isn't all that interested in getting on a bike anymore since we had our first child. I have only owned one other bike before this one, VStar1100, and when looking around was looking at this bike or the Warrior. Been obsessing lately about getting a new bike but funds don't really allow for it. In the meantime I just keep riding my bike as much as I can but it's definitely not nearly as much as I thought.

So right now I feel like I have the wrong bike for me sometimes. Outside of hearing her complain if I were to replace my FJR, I am also concerned with not being happy with my next bike.

Really only one answer.... multiple bikes.

No one bike is a do it all but the Feejeer is a good mule.

 
Multiple bikes is always the answer. I ride my FJR on club rides and touring a couple times a year. I have an 08 Honda CBR1000RR for during the weekday evenings when I feel a bit randy. I also have a 1983 Honda CB1100F that I modified with a big bore kit, upgraded suspension, modern wheels and rubber, and rearsets. There are more mods but basically it is all built out. It gives me my old school ride when I want it to. The FJR gets the most milage on it but they all get ridden regularly. I keep saying I should sell the 1100F but then I ride it and then I realize why I still have it. When I go to the mountains for a week I usually trailer the FJR and rotate each year between the CBR and the 1100F. I do need to pick up a dual sport bike like the 650 V-Strom but my wife also has two bikes so my garage is full for now.

Not to get too far off topic, but if you really are gonna sell your TBs cans, send me a PM. Depending on what you have on the bike, I will look at taking them from you. I've wanted set for a while now.

I have to give thumbs up to this ...before even reading your entire post this is the bike that I thought of as the best solution ...and I see two people beat me to suggesting it.

Awesome bike, great fun, old skewl but reliable, and I have no doubt the user-group is as stellar today as it was a few years ago ...a great group of guys who like riding for the same reasons you do.

I sure like your style

-dump the FJR,

Everyone has one, shit you go to lunch with fjr guys and walk out to the parking lot you don't even know which bike is yours they all look the same ....bike-to-bike until the key fits to find out which is yours. Clones-ville it is.

Get the ZRX and let your spirit prosper.

 
Bulldog9, I know what you mean about wanting a bike with no plastic or windshield. Back in early 2006 when I was looking for a replacement for my '79 XS11 Special (my second) I wanted 4 cylinders, shaft drive, and no bodywork. I could get 2 out of 3 but not all 3 together. I found a 2003 FJR and I'm very happy with it, but missed the direct wind blast and easy maintenance. Last summer I bought a 2003 Valkyrie for riding with my GF when she's on her Harley. I promply removed the windshield and now enjoy the wind I had been missing.
