The dealer gave me these two rubber thingies (technical name) with an eyelette at each end. I asked what they were for but he didn't know, what they were, just that he found them in the owners manual so he passed them on.

They are black rubber about 5-6" long and about 3/16" thick with a 1/4" eyelette at each end.

Any ideas? :eh:

 
If their not part of the bondage kit you just recieved and are keeping quite about, then I think they fit under the passenger seat and are designed to hold a U-lock in place. :D

Thanks guys. I saw your responses and went out and looked for some place to hook them. Darned if I can see where they go. any chance someone has a picture of them installed? What I did find were three plastic hooks near the front of the area under hte passenger seat that look like I'm missing something else under there.

Maybe when need a new owner tell-all page. Like,

There is a spot to put your U-Lock.

There are four hoses running out the bottom, name them and win a prize.

The idle screw is made of gold.

The mirrors fold.

ABS will do a burn-out.

Shafties do wheelies.

The auto-retract can be shut-off.

Your pumpkin needs paste.

 
Give the guy a break , the dealer didn't even know what they were for.......must not be anything of any usefullness as the factory didn't put em on, and by the way. What exactly are they for again? As your responses to this guys question so far don't make MUCH SENSE, as no ones come up with a PURPOSE for them. I'd guess you can throw them away, or keep them in the owners manual so the next bike's owner so he can figure out what purpose they might serve .

 
As I have read hear and elsewhere before, they are for a u-lock that was delivered in the European market, but not in the North American market. We got liners for our saddle bags that they had to buy as an option. Not sure how true, but have read it many times in the past.

What's a U-lock? Though I'm not sure if this one fits in the tail of the FJR.

If you would take the time to read this thread and many of the previous threads about these rubber things, you would see that indeed his question has been answered. It is for the u-lock that we in the US don't get from Yamaha.

As for the dealer not knowing.... wow a dealer not knowing something about an FJR... theres a fookin suprise :rolleyes:

I've not been to my dealer that I don't end up answering questions from the salesmen or customers. That's my great priviledge to be knowledgeable about my bike. The dealers get the standard sales /information kit from Yamaha. Since they sell far fewer FJRs than any other bike in the "line-up" and don't see them often after the sale, why should we expect them to know every detail about this bike. The different forums have so much information, that any of us who peruse what is and has been written by other owners concerning problems and information will know more than most dealer's sales force. After all, we are much more passionate about the FJR than they are.

FJRottie may have the best idea. Maybe we need a "Basic Information for New Owners" page pinned so all new owners can check there first? Nah, they'd still post and ask.

Pardon us for having a little fun with our responses to questions that get asked often. I think you'll find that most of the people that frequent this board enjoy their "Fishing Trips" at the expense of the newbies. We all started as newbies and continue the tradition. (Well, most of us. I would never think of doing that. ;) )

Cpt Obvious, If there was a discussion about those rubber thingys on this board several searches about two months ago failed to uncover it. However, I did find the answer on the other board (not ez) cuz I was damned if I was gonna ask here seeing the responces I've seen to these questions until I had exhausted all possibilities.

Yeah you may be right about the discussion not being here, and not showing up in a search. I tend to forget that this board is fairly new. I know that it was on the EZ board a number of times.

However... the responses and pictures in this thread clearly show what they are for.

Isn't there an FJR FAQ around somewhere? I remember seeing one with lot's of these questions answered.

Now the rest of the story. If your battery dies you pull the left side case cover off the bike. Inside is a pulley that pops out. The rubber thingy is attached to a small protrusion on the pulley and then wrapped around it multiple times. The other loop is attached to any type of handle devise so you can pull-start it like a lawnmower. Pretty simple really . . . :)

 
No wonder I had to roll start it the other day!!! I took off the right side panel and couldn't for the life of me find the pulley to attach the rubber thingie to :unsure:

But how do you fit your hand in the handle of the strap? It must be made for midgets -er, "height challenged" people. :lol:
