Oh for the Love of God, Carver! Just go out and buy a damn KTM 690 Enduro, it is as easy as whipping out a checkbook! In our AZ Beemers BMW Club and Arizona FJR Forum Club there are a lot of great off road riders, not just ****** ones like Tucson Joe and Papa Chuy.

For the ones that have not gone for the BMW F800GS, the others all have gone with the KTM 690 Enduro. They love their pumpkin orange KTM's and to my knowledge they have not encountered mechanical problems with them. The maintenance is more frequent though!

https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2011-KTM-690-ENDURO-R-98399939 Here is one in Covina, just down the 101 from you. Stop diddle dicking around and go buy your Pumpkin. Then sell your ATK to Rushes and the R69S to Chuy! Certainly glad that I could be of assistance in you decision making!

I dont know, how many bags can you put on that thing?

I just checked to see who else voted no and found out I've thrown in with Petey & OM. Is it too late to change my vote??

With the 1 gallon Rotopax and luggage (tent, clothes, tool and food) I had about 70 lbs on on back of her. I was surprise because I could barley feel the weight back there. I did install stiffer springs in the front and back.

As for gas.... The 3 gallon tank will get you about 135 miles before the reserve light comes on. Unless you need the gas for places like out west, you WILL be ready to get off her at that point. Believe me she's no plush FJR ride. :dribble:

Seriously this is about the best all around bike (for its weight and maintenance) you will find to ADV ride. Plus it hauls ***!!! :yahoo: However the problem is it will take some farkle buying to get it to that point.

Mi Hermano Donaldo, My Buddy CHRIS_D's post #44 got me to thinking: What are you looking for in this KTM? A truly aggressive off road adventure bike or a bike that can do the Alaska Haul Road and the Top of the World road between Dawson City, Yukon Territory and Chicken, Alaska?

"Plus it hauls ***!!! However the problem is it will take some farkle buying to get it to that point." This is Chris's excellent comment that caught my poor old eyes.

I am a huge fan of KTM's, they do haul *** and have a proven record at the race track. And if you need that performance and just have to have KTM, then go for it!

But, if you are looking for an Alaska and Yukon Machine for 2012; the BMW F800GS's and F650GS's already come with the necessary farkles for Haul Road and Whitehorse to Tok Road. https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2009-Bmw-F-650-GS-99095740 Here's one in Fresno you could probably get for $7.5K!

It has to match his wife's new helmet....

:)
Point very well taken Russ, I'd forgotten the new bike had to match Shauna's new helmet! Thank You, for reminding me! I'm going to get an eyeopener of Old Granddad, you want a shot?

after a few hundred showers ya don't feel quite as dirty/defiled, trust me....

;)

I voted No because KTM = "Keeps Taking Money" and that is from several KTM owners I run with. I did just go look at a new Husqvarna TE449 and it spoke to me, going to take a ride on thursday afternoon with the owner of the shop on his TE310. I'll let you know how it went.

Had one for two yrs, no problems. Don't ride it that hard either, not like it is meant to be. I like the punch it delivers. Walks all over the Mrs's GS650. Had one of those BMW pigs, got rid of it and got this, those big BMW's suck off road IMO. Seen some people do some wild stuff on the BMW pigs but 600 lbs was too much for me off pavement. Compared to the suzuki dual sports this thing is a tank. Yeah you pay more but this thing is race ready.

The 690 reminds me of my hopped up Yamaha WR 450F and is street legal. :yahoo:

Get it, and don't look back. Only issue with the bike is the front tire has a tendency to leave the ground often. KTM has yet to find a solution for the problem or generate a recall. Others will do this.. :dribble: you will be doing this :yahoo:

I thought KTM = Kick Till Monday
I'm getting the feeling some people are just plain jealous of the ORANGE :p :p
Right you are Chris, lots of cucksockers are "Jealous" of KTM Orange! Dakar Rally has been won by a KTM for the last decade, before that it was BMW. You never see one of those **** blue Yamaha's in First Place Position at the Dakar Rally.
