Actually not, because it is quite a ways off the coastline and the old Chowder Run route followed the coast closely as far as Bah Habah. Of course one could make it on their way home if they are taking the slab route it passes right through Bangor/Brewer.

But alas, the FJR Chowder Run didn't happen this year, and CJ isn't picking up the option for next year either, so I hear.

The 'beams are probably going to be free at some point. I have some 'home work' that needs to be done and the FJR is begging for a little maintenance but there are going to be 3 days to get it all done.

Knew we could count on the 'beams. We'll just have to do a last minute, "Ready... Aim... Fire!" sometime this weekend.

8-12 weeks....grrrrr! I even stopped at Razee yesterday to look at step thru scooters

I'm up for tagging along Sun or Mon. If heading to Maine, 95S on Monday should be avoided, it puts Boston traffic to shame. Other Maine traffic hot spots are likely to be Kennebunkport, Wiscasset, Boothbay & Camden.

Same thing Jack. Only difference is I don't lose the top of my leg bone. Same recovery time.

Well... I may have something I want to do this weekend that is motorcycle related, but doesn't actually involve riding. :blink:

Last February I got the itch for a new bike and decided to swap my pristine '98 VFR800 for an '08 WR250R dual sport that I found through the ADV forum. My reasoning was that I wasn't getting much ride time on the VFR, what with the FJR and Manstrom in the garage, and maybe a lightweight dual sport would be fun.

Well, this summer I've been out on the WR exactly twice. The bike is awesome in the dirt, but very much less than awesome getting to a dirty spot to ride. I'm just way too big for a two fiddy on the street (6'2" 220 lbs). I offered the bike up for sale a few weeks ago (on the ADV riders forum) and had a few nibbles, but nobody was buying and it was definitely priced right. Plus if I'd had any kind of reasonable offer I would have negotiated.

Late this week I noticed that the guy that I traded my VFR to had also listed it for sale. He took an extended trip on the bike and realized that the ergonomics are not cut out for his body (or vice versa). I contacted him and sure enough he was willing to trade back. So I've got my old girl back in the lineup in my garage as of today.

I will not post any pictures of her in her current, somewhat sad condition as that would be unfair. She is awfully dirty, and needs some of my tender ministrations to bring her back to her former pristine glory, but just hearing her V4 purring to me today has my heart pumping fast again. How could I have been such a fool? If you are wondering, yes I took a genuine beating on this double swap, in a several ways that I won't go into.

But I figure... live and learn. I won't be letting her get away again, unless she'll be staying in the family (at my son's house).

Good for you Fred. That bike is a beauty. I know you'll get it cleaned up, but the more time cleaning means less time riding. So give it a quick wipe down and ride that thing like it should be ridden. What better way to welcome it back ? :clapping:

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Didn't even look at it today. Out riding around the bass bote blue beauty stablemate instead. Can't be ignoring that one just because the prodigal son returns home!!

I'll get to the Viffer soon enough. And no, Art. I can't ride this bike the way it is right now. None of my bikes have ever been this dirty before (as long as I have owned them) and I'm no neatnik.

Yeah, Owl's Head Museum is a supposed to be a really good take.

One of my co-workers, who used to live up in Bucksport, worked there after he retired. He has now, unfortunately, passed on, but he always spoke reverently about the place. However, if I were going there I'd probably much rather do it on a non-hoopty weekend or, better yet, a weekday when you could take your time and enjoy the exhibits. I'd imagine there will be a large pirate contingent there this weekend. irate:

The OHTM was really nice to see, not a big turn out on sunday due to the rain but it cleared up in the early afternoon. Not too many pirates but some pretty cool old bikes. A special treat was the P-51 Mustang that done a little show and landed and then they auctioned off a ride in it.

IMHO, the best areas for FJR peeps are Nerds and the PNW.

 

Wish I could magically appear at each and every event for these fine peeps.
