(Lane Splitting) I dont do it much myself... I was getting alot of email for a lane splitting video so there it is... yes it is Dangerous But nothing happen to either one of us thank god... Made for a fun scary video....Keep in mind the front camera has a zoomed up lens so it looks like cars were alot closer then they were. In the begining with the truck on the left and the car on the right i still had plenty of room. the camera on the lower left of my bike looks alot faster then we were going, yes we were a bit faster then we should have been going but the speed limit was 65... the move to the right of the vehicles was dumb but it made for it for the flick..

Yeppers. It's all good. I'd had several 7&7's when I posted that.. Was celebrating the new day coming 7/7/07.. so, after having about 7 of them 7&7's went out for a little fjr high speed run. I'll puke post up later..

Man, you Californians are ka-razy sumbitches! You're gonna get yourself killed dead. Dead dead deadidy dead.

JB

P.S. Dog, a bitchin' video. God I love doin' that ****! Makes me wanna go riding RIGHT NOW! But I never pass on the right. Violates the James Burleigh Principle of Motorcycle Advantage--viz., if a car could do it, it ain't a M.C. advantage, it's breaking the law, or just being a prick. (And I never like to behave like a prick on my motorcycle.... )

Great vid jdog, but I gotta add my thumbs down to the right side passing on the shoulder. Sorry guys, that's just not a good place for a motorcycle to be. I thought the speed was cool tho :p

Keep the vids commin jdog!

they introduced a lane sharing bill in texas during last year's session. i hope they reintroduce it and it passes soon.

Are you peppering your local state reps to bring it back? Who's involved? AMA? Police Associations? Without them, it won't fly. I would think that there are enough riders and riders groups in TX to punch a bill like that through. Good luck.

Jdog, Just watched the video. Nice work. I understand how following Fairlaner might inspire you turn up the wick. It does the same to me.

Maybe we should all chip in to buy Fairlaner a fork mounted CHP type cattle gaurd front end, so he can simply push the slower bikes out of the way :D . Then we can just send him in front to clear the way!

John i thought your lights worked very good at clearing the traffic.

May have to get me some of them to go with my escort 8500 and my zumo that will be here today.

Tim did your Zumo arrive?

Man I do hope Texas will get it going. Can't say I would go quite like in the vid, but I would sure like the opportunity to do it legally.

Great idea! What a sight that would be - a posse of FJR's splitting lanes at warp speed as the drivers melt away to either side.

Lay off the crack penguin. ....and yes, twn...we in texas will have our druthers.....sooner or later.

Yep. Got problems, though. Mic cuts out the audio and callers can't hear me on the cellie. Technology sucks!

Yes we lane split cause we get tired of Traffic and slow HD riders... Ooopsssss did he pass on the right twice..... scary ****
Enjoy the ride

You Californians are soo lucky those lanes look almost big enough to fit a car. Up here in NYC it's illegal to split lanes and it's always like the F150 and white minivan spacing. Half the drivers don't want to give you enough room to pass but we do it anyway. B)

I do that here on occasion, not anywheres near to that extent of course, and it's far from legal-I expect to have a bill due some day. But it's that, or start rearranging the atomic make-up of some left lane bandits, I consider this the lesser of two evils. ;)

Visited CA this past Spring and got to see lane splitting for the first time. I can see the benefits and the rationale. I know from reading this and other posts on this Forum that there is lane splitting and then there is stupid lane splitting (just like there is speeding (over the speed limit) and stupid speeding. This looked to me like stupid lane splitting. As long as you're the only one who will get hurt (or worse) if you or the other guy makes a mistake then explore the outer limits. BUT, if you are putting others in the path of destruction you need to sit back and reflect on the value of the other person's life - if not your own.

It's all a matter of perspective. There are times when it is safer to nail the throttle to clear a situation. That can look for all the world like hooliganism, but it's actually self preservation. I'll give you that the boys were hamming it up a bit for the camera, but unless you share lanes daily don't be so quick to judge and preach.

;)

Nope - not judging or preaching. I totally believe that what we do is preserving perhaps the last bastion of individualism left. And, I totally agree with the "roll the throttle to get out of this now". But all that's not what this looked like. If you are constantly rolling the throttle to squeeze out of situations then I believe you should examine your riiding technique. This strategy is for "emergencies/exegencies" - not common riding technique. Again, I am less concerned about the person riding the bike than I am about what happens when someone else is "spooked" by what's happening around them, and they get hurt (or worse).
