Laptops and motorcycle vibration

I got an inquiry from a pair of sexagenarian females relatively new to riding; one on an H-D bagger, the other on a Honda Shadow. They asked whether motorcycle vibration was an issue when it comes to carrying a laptop. I bring an iPad but have never packed a laptop. I suspect a soft carrying case would eliminate worries. My guess is vibration is not issue but maybe folks more knowledgeable could chime in.
I have an small Asus laptop that I've had nearly 5 years and its been all over the southwest in a 1150GS, to the tip of Baja and back (with a few dirt days) and all over Vietnam as well. I would think if they had a half way decent laptop, it will be fine

@eatpasta:

Which ASUS model do you have. Planning to get a dedicated 'bike' laptop for all 'media' storing and processing.

The one that I have is an Asus Eee PC 900 - which is technically a netbook which means it does not have a CD drive but it does have an SD card slot which is AWESOME for bike trips. Just plug your digital camera card right into the computer. It's only 9" so it fits in the pocket of my cargo shorts, its seriously just slightly larger than my hand. It's been a FANTASTIC machine. 150 gigs of local storage, 2 gigs of ram..... its all you really need for a traveling machine and it will still play games and stuff if you need it to do that as well.

as I said before, it's been on at least 4 bike trips longer than a month, it's been through most of Vietnam and Ive dropped it - from about 6 feet, onto concrete at least twice and it still works.

Four years ago I paid $250 so im sure there is something comparable out there to find. The keyboard is tiny, but once you get used to it you will be able to type very quickly.....

and I still use it - every single day - never had an issue. Ive reformatted it a few times when it has started to get slow (after a few years of surfing the web etc) but its been totally bulletproof

You're kidding right?

Tell the old broads to pull the batteries from their vibrators before they mount whatever they happen to pay to ride that day.

OMFG.. I'm really beginning to hate this place.

why's that?
Have you ever heard a 4 year old incessently whine about something? Well, Bust is the same as that 4 year old, but with the ability to hunt&peck some words out on a computer. The alcohol is probably wearing off...Don't stress him.

I carry a cheap Acer Aspire One. I bought it specifically because it is tiny and cheap. I didn't want to risk damaging an expensive laptop on the rides. I started carrying it in a case, but that just made it larger and took more space. Since space is at a premium on a motorcycle tour, I now just pack it in my clothes. The thing's probably four or five years old now and seen tens of thousands of miles. So far, so good.

Acer makes really good little laptops as well and unless Im mistaken, they share a lot of parts with Asus
