Gonna get that stock seat tommorrow. Derlin sliders?
Give the stock seat a try for a few days to see how it feels. Some like the stock one and others don't.

I just installed some of the OES sliders. I'm pretty sure they are Derlin. The two top choices are either OES or Motovation. Install took less time than gathering the tools did :)

As far as leaning forward, I notice it when sitting on the bike but not when riding down the road. In my case if I sit up to straight I will slouch and then my back will hurt. So the slight (compared to a sport bike) lean actually helps me keep my back straight.

Are your wrists hurting from putting to much weight on the bars?

I got tossed 50feet out of a car at 80mph in an accident 4 years ago. So I have some crazy injury related pain in all the most inconvenient places. Neck, shoulders, three spinal locations, forearms and wrists +a list of other things. I can't sign my name on a check without neck, finger and forearm pain. It varies in severity day to day but is always with me. The crazy thing is the only place I don't hurt is, well was, on my Vstrom. That's why I ride, being on the bike is serious pain relief. I'm trying to setup the FJr to allow me to relax in the saddle. Master Yoda's recommendations are exactly what I got out of the VStrom setup. But, I cant do this on the FJR with the current seat. Getting the dealer to replace the Sargeatn with a stock tomorrow. Hopefully that will move me in a great direction.

Oh wow....bummer about the accident and pain issues. For sure I can see how getting the bike setup just right is very important in your case.

If the stock seat does not get you heading in the right direction there some very good custom seat folks out there that can make one to fit "you" personally. They are not cheap but the folks that I know that have gone that route have always been happy with the results.

I guess after getting the stOck seat, I'll add bar risers if necessary. Although frame sliders seems to be everyone's first suggestion, I'll be spending most of my time straight up till I can get more comfortable. If I can quit having FJR dreams,'I'd get some sleep-that might go a long way for comfort too.

Stock seat works better for me. It's Raining today so I won't get to spend much time. But comIng back from the dealer I notice my hips and lower back were painless.

Bar risers are next. Got a chance to sit on my VStrom to check out the arm position. VStrom bars are chest high. FJR bars are waist high. I'm thinking D&D risers. Gens seem to offer the smallest alteration.

Good to hear the stock seat feels better and your hips and lower back felt better. Hopefully the rain will let up enough for you to get out and ride.

Regarding bar height.

I noticed that too when I rode my v-strom last week. I remembered them being lower than they are but when I got on the bike it felt like I had climbed onto a dirt bile.....LOL.

Speaking of v-strom's, it looks like I have a buyer for mine. I'll know later today if it sells.

Oh, regarding the sliders. I think, but could be wrong, that most folks put them on to help protect the bike if it gets dropped at low speeds or when moving the bike around more than for protection at higher speeds.

Jon...

Sliders will be all but useless in a higher speed get off. They will however easily pay for themselves many times over in a zero speed drop as they will protect the plastic.

They do work, and I would prefer not to go into how I know this

Yeah, my VStrom rides after testing the FJR all felt wrong. Comfortable but odd. I had crash bars - sliders ate odd to me. How does that little thing do what crash bars do! I Hess I can't see how far they protrude. Wouldn't the handle bars still take impact?

It's kinda hard to see the black on black, but check out Asphalt Junkie's bike, there are bars up front and in front of the bags. The vertical bars with the lights are the front bars, the horizontal loops are the rear bars.

I made the following picture larger than normal and it is a bit grainy because I tried to pushed the picture to make the black bars on the black bike stand out as much as I could. Squint and look hard, you can see the bars.

Unfortunately for you, Paul has a Gen II so I don't know if something like this would fit a Gen I.

Oh I like those bars!

They look like what you would see on a police bike and would help protect the fairing and the side bags a lot better than just sliders. Especially in a tip over and low speeds.

More info (link, blog, etc...) would be great :)

Jon...

Side note:

The V-Strom sold today :)

I told ya what I know. PM Asphalt Junkie and see what he says. I know he is really busy right now so you might not get an answer right away. I'm pretty sure that Paul doesn't know that I posted these pictures here in this thread. The first picture was taken in Portsmouth, NH toward the end of the North Shore and NH Coast ride. The second picture was taken when we were pre-riding the Covered Bridge route.

I'm sure those are police bars and me likie too.

These bars are from here, you need to select Yamaha, hit Go, then FJR1300 and selct Go, and you get the pictures. GenII only.

Racing905 had some bar sets for both GenI and II Feejes, but I don't see them on their site any more. I recall that there were a lot of fitment issues in the group buy that happened a couple of years ago.

Yeah...I saw those. That's more my speed. Seems like everywhere I look for farkin farkles, most fitment is 06+.

I'd love bars. I'm not the machining type. I wonder if I can

start a group buy(investment) that would influence some experienced designer/owner to make some for Gen I.

I sent an email to the owners at MCe, the makers of the crash bars. Perhaps Ill hear from them tomorrow if they are willing to make crash bars for pre 2006 bikes for a specified number of qualified buyers. If they are willing, I'll start a new thread (if that is the best way to go about securing interest) I have no idea how likely FJR pilots are to respond. The bike sure is sexy without crashbars, some folks may prefer those looks and lines.

Regarding the bars........

I just got off the phone with the folks at MCE and here is what I found out.

Front set = 150.00

Rear set = 112.50

Shipping is included in the price.

Regarding if they will work on the Gen-1 bikes. The rears might but he was not positive. For sure the fronts will not just bolt on because the bodywork is different between Gen-1 and Gen-2. What he was not sure about, and I'm to new to the FJR's to answer, is if the mounting locations on the frame for the bars are the same or if the frame was also changed between both generations.

So.... if the frame did not change on the Gen-1 bikes then it might only require puttinig a hole in the bodywork on the Gen-1 bikes to mount the front bars. And he was not 100% sure the rears will bolt up.

See images for the ST1300 at the following link to give you an idea of how they mount through the body work on that bike.

Oh, there is not a restocking fee if someone buys the bars and they decide to return them.

Hope that helps,

Jon...

Almost forgot........

I'm really tempted to get a set but I'm not sure how black bars would look on a silver bike. The person I spoke with said they would check to see if it would be possible to sell me a chrome set since they sell them in chrome for the other bikes.

My apologies for getting way off the original topic in this thread. But since the bars were brought up I figured I would post the followup here after talking with the folks who make them.

Jon...

Thanks I had an email conversation with them

As well. They are willing to make a set but would need 25 orders, half paid upfront, half before delivery. And....they need a Gen1 bike.

I'll start a new thread about the crashbars when MCe give me the OK to post the email sent to me. Meanwhile

Givi has a mountable roller case !

I have no idea how many liters my stock OEM VStrom luggage rated. But I'd want that plus a few more. Only one helmet fit in the Suzuki by Kappa case. I;d want a wee more room than that. Two FF helmets seem like too much-wouldn't that uglify by FJR.? Still trying to find a good system for carrying the things I need for business and travel. True I could get something to tow behind the bike. But that isn't practical for my everyday commute.

Slightly larger luggage would do it. The other thing is I don't really want to spend 400.00 for some big plastic boxes. Unless I can pack them in the house as briefcases and just carry them into the office. I don't want to appear like I"m toting a small flying saucer (with taillights !!) around the campus with me.

Still searching for a road worthy but elegant solution large enough for a big back pack. Soft luggage ? So far as I browse the various related threads I'm not finding what I need. Most of those threads are from years ago.
