https://www.lasd.org/sites/motorcycle-test/2006.pdf I really do wish that the Yamaha Corporation of North America would do a better job of promoting their law enforcement machine, the FJR 1300, to Canada, US, Mexico; like they do in Europe/Asia.

Going over the data, I know that the FJR would do better in each and every category. I have a BMW R1150RT and a Harley-Davidson FXD in my garage next to my 2003 FJR, so I know from my own riding experiences that our FJR's would do a much better job for police work! Here in Arizona, I'm tired of being pulled over for speeding on same bikes I ride. Ha, ha!!

Actually, I would prefer they had

That evaluation is interesting. I would have liked to see the FJR there as well to see how it compared. Interesting that the common complaint on the ST is a lack of lean angle (although not compared to some of the HD's)

Could be worse

Yeah, he could catch you, but then he'd have to find one of Odot's trees to lean it up against in order to come give you your ticket, or he'd have to carry his training wheels on the back....

That's gotta suck coming in Monday AM and having you boss say they need you to go evaluate a bunch of motorcycles to determine which one to buy for you to ride at work. Makes me appreciate my job that much more! :)

It would make a great LEO mount. The ST1300 is widely used, not sure why the FJR never made the cut.

They just got FJR's here. Just talking to a Brit bike cop today, Cheshire police have 8 and are rapidly replacing their fleet of ST's because of the handling problem.

Got a couple of Maitso FJR models, and wondered if I convince the Sheriff to ditch the Harleys...

Waiting for the paint to cure; decals and lights go on tomorrow. This is what the cars look like:

Just be glad they don't have these:

Interesting to hear this. Our guys were on BMWs for 10 years, switched to STs and six months later, ordered new BMWs due to a high speed wobble with the ST that could not be fixed. Something about the weight of police lights/gear de-stabilizing the bike. The BMWs run fine. Sure would like to see some FJRs run by officers stateside. So much potential...

The European branch of Yamaha does a fairly good job of pushing police bikes. Various police agencies in Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Portugal, the UK, and Spain use them.

But for whatever reason, Yamaha doesn't seem to want to mix it up with BMW and Harley in the US for the police market.

Dale Franks: Thanks for the photo link to the NL law enforcement FJR's. When I rode the Alps in October 2004 the FJR was still new and I didn't see any LEO FJR's. In February of 2006 I saw a couple of LEO FJR's in Andalucia and Madrid, Spain.

Last May and June I saw a dozen LEO FJR's in Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Didn't spot them in Germany; still BMW LEO's.

feejer222: When the Cheshire police get their FJR's out on the street, could you get a picture of them for me? When I last rode in United Kingdom, it seemed that every British LEO was mounted on the BMW K75RTP, but those are no longer made.

EODSarge: Nice work with the models, hope you can get your Sheriff to outfit the Barrow County Department with the FJR!

I'm part of the Forum riding the Pyrenees with Stef in 2 weeks. I'll try to get pictures of the Spanish LEO FJR's posted here.
