Leaf Peeping 2013

Usual suspects & others who may possibly join in: I need to choose a date for this ASAP. My work schedule these days requires that I put in a vacation request well ahead of time. I "think" that we normally go the 2nd or 3rd weekend in October. What say ye?

I'll be in New York (Finger Lakes) 10/2-10/6. So pick a date, and I'll see if I can make it.

The trip to the Finger Lakes will be in the car with the wife, to drink lots of wine.

I was talking with Jay (Violione) last night. He was mentioning the possibility of renting a cabin @ Watoga as opposed to staying @ the Old Clark Inn. It seems that Andrea & Nelson... the owners have gotten very proud of their Inn & went way up on the prices.

Watoga would allow a newer ride area for us, also.

I can do the sencond or third weekend in October. We start an outage on the 26th for ten days, so that time is out for me. I will send Andrea an email requesting rates and availability for the 2nd and 3rd weekend. I will check on cabin rentals for that timeframe too. They can be hard to get at Watoga.

Heidi- How does Watoga change the ride area? It is only 10-15 minutes from Marlinton.

That's accurate. Guess that I didn't realize. In my mind the small amount of distance may point us more in a southerly direction instead of north. I'd be fine cutting Williams River Rd out of this year's peeping. I definitely like Back Mountain Rd, though. Rural peeping at it's best.

I concur. I think we should try and fit Howard's Lick in the mix too. That should be a beautiful fall ride.

we may want to pick lodging in the northern area of WV if we did Howards Lick... because, without looking at a map, I think that's completely out of our ride area. IMO the riding in the southern half of the state is much better. Maybe plan a ride that goes down through New River Gorge area?

Edited to add: just did a google maps from Watoga to Howards Lick... looks like 112 miles.
