Right. It is all good now. Some background:

I did my second valve clearance and after all the work was done (BTW a lot of those babies where out of spec in the tight side) I notice a little trickle of engine oil at the base of the frame (there is a hole on the frame by where the rear brake pedal is. I checked everything after the engine was closed and everything all was bone dry (after firing her up let her come up to temperature and then a few good accelerations). It only became apparent when going for a ride.

In any case: Not the half moon. All looked good. Could not find a bloody reason for it. I would rev the heck out and nothing. Somehow, I knew it was leaking from that side (there is another hole in the frame right by the half moons that can potentially get a little splash of oil and then trickle down within the frame and appear at the bottom where I have previously described. So, I opened everything again. Note the little nicks of the gasket in between the half moons. Those nicks would be positioned almost right on top on the sprockets of the timing chain:

So, why did it happen? Also note the little tab of rubber that joins that side of the gasket with the rings that go on the cooling system and spark plugs. This ******* would sit on top of the timing chain and when the cover is in place would draw the gasket in! Also, I may have nicked the gasket with the timing chain when placing the cover.

REVELATION: Do you want to put in the cover within 3.5min smooth as butter?

Place a piece of masking tape on top of that chain. Also cover the frame tabs on top so the do not rob on your cover as you are placing it. Like so:

I cut that bloody tab that was giving me trouble

Give you cover some TLC: Good engine enamel (also the thermostat pipe):

Really hope that this helps you! Learn from my mistakes!

That thin piece of rubber that connects the outer gasket to the inner rings should have been completely removed. It's only there for packaging purposes, so the inner pieces don't get lost.

Thanks mate. You are right... I removed it entirely. Lesson learned. May this serve as an example for others! The devil is in the details!

Thanks everyone for all your help

Thanks for letting us know of the potential pitfalls involved with this. I shall keep this in mind when it is time for me to check the valves.
