I was thinking of taking my first Sierra ride since arriving in California. I really only have Sunday morning, and was thinking of leaving really early to avoid the heat - like 6:30 or something. But wondering if anyone would like to go along? I'd be starting from Loomis, but happy to rendezvous somewhere near.

I thought of doing something like a triangle between Loomis, Auburn, Hwy 49 towards Placerville, then back through El Dorado Hills. Maybe something a couple of hours longer. Whatever. I'd like to be home by about 11am for a family gathering. I'm open to your half-day route ideas, though. I know there's an embarrassment of blacktop riches here!

I likely can't get away...but I have some ideas. Do you have a GPS? I could email you a couple of routes. OR, maybe build them in Google Maps.

I have a Zumo 550, I'm fairly savvy with Google Earth, and I have Garmin Basecamp installed on the Mac and that other Garmin software installed on the PC. I'd love any routes you've got and should be able to remember how to install them.

Thanks!

IF....I can get all my chores done on Saturday....I'll meet you in Loomis.

When and where?

Oh wait....you said 0630!

WHERE?

We can take Taylor Rd. up to 193, left on Ophir Rd. to I-80 East. Get off on Foresthill Rd. and cross the bridge/ravine and turn Right onto Old Foresthill Rd. down the canyon and Left on Hwy 49 up the winding section to Coll.

From there we can either turn left on 193 to Gerogetown or stay on Hwy 49 for 10 miles (my preference) and turn left on Marshall Grade Rd. to Georgetown. Once in Georgetown (there's an AM/PM at the intersection) we could turn right on Hwy 193 to Placerville, turn Right on Hwy 49 and ride North through Coloma to Pilot Hill....turn left on Salmon Falls Rd. and ride that down to the South side of Folsom Lake.

Once on Green Valley Rd., we can turn right on E. Natoma St. then right on Folsom Dam Rd. to Auburn Folsom Rd.

From there it would be an easy ride home for you. Up Auburn Folsom Rd., Left on Cavitt Stallman Rd. (at the fire station) and right on Laird Rd. When Laird makes a 90 degree left bend, turn right on Horeshoe Bar Rd. to I-80....and that should be close to home.

I haven't plotted the route but that's a pretty good outline.

I'll send you a PM with my personal contact information.

Er...Barry, you might want to change your location in your profile, This would be a loooooong ride from MA.

Uhm....Barry....Whassup?

Are we riding? Should I plan to get all my running done today? Where would you want to meet in Loomis or Auburn?

I mean...er....I hate to send out emails if you don't have a basic plan...

exskibum has replied in an email with another route idea:

Auburn to Foresthill, Mosquito Ridge Rd. to ELeven Pines Rd. to Wentworth Springs Rd.to Ice House Rd. to 50 west to Sly Park Rd. to New Town Rd. to 50 west to 49 north to 193 loop through Georgetown to Cool and 49 north to 80 (from Cool, I assume you'd go south on 49 to Pilot Hill and take Salmon Falls Rd. south toward home).
I'm thinking that's all doable in the time Zip specified. If we met at the usual Auburn starting line (Starbucks at Foresthill Road) and left from there @ 6:30 am, I'm thinking we'd just get him back to the barn by 11 am
Your turn, Barry.....

I would love to join you on this ride, but the bike is currently torn down a little undergoing maintenance. Let's see if I can wrap things up today (instead of taking breaks to write a ride report), will watch this thread and keep you posted.

Guys, sorry for the delay. I'd presumed I'd be going alone after this post sat idle for a few days! I'm psyched to have some company and some guidance!

I'll happily meet you at the place of your choosing in Auburn before 7am, or propose a rendezvous spot below. And I don't mind delaying the take-off time slightly if I can still be back in Loomis before noon sharp.

Here's a possible meeting spot, just off of I-80: Starbucks, 5070 Rocklin Road, Rocklin. It's right next to Sierra College. (Just around the corner from my house on the border of Loomis and Rocklin.)

Happy to see any/all there by 6:45 or so. (We'll avoid much or all of the traffic!)

Let me know your preference, and I'll be a happy follower!

Are you ready for some twisties*? :yahoo:

I'd propose Starbucks at the Foresthill exit off I-80 east (northeast end of Auburn) -- we meet there often for Sierra foothill adventures. It's right next to I-80 and a Chevron Station, and the routes into the best areas begin right there. You can either take the "Foresthill" exit and double back on Lincoln a couple hundred feet, or take the immediately previous "Lincoln Way" exit, make a left at the stop sign at the end of the off ramp and proceed** a half mile or so to the Starbucks on your left.

Starbucks at 13345 Lincoln Way, Auburn

The really good stuff we have in mind is about 4.5 hours worth of riding, though we can shave chunks off to accommodate any woosified urgent need to get back to the barn for social duties.

* to be served with some excellent mountain scenery

** There's a Shell station on your right using this latter approach

I'll be emailing you the 2 routes....mine and Rich's....but Rich's is more fun and has more varied riding venues. :yahoo:

As he said, it can be shortened by riding Hwy 50 from Ice House Rd. to Hwy 49.

@ Sam....ride the SV!?!? ;)

Gentlemen, I will see you at Starbucks on Lincoln Way in Auburn before 7am tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. And I'm happy to follow any route as long as I am back in Loomis by noon.

(Getting to see my Dad and the rest of the family in California for the first time since moving west. Kinda important.)

Thanks!
