What mode is the mileage readout in? Sounds like you're in average instead of realtime and it just hasn't inched up yet...

I have the 08 now im looking for something to put on my license plate in maine we can put up to 7 letters do you guys have any good ones .

I also have a question about fuel milage my bike has been getting around 30 miles per gallon its still very cold up here in northern maine and i have been very gentle on the throttle and i only have about 200 miles on it will it get better ????
I have an 07 and last summer it got in the mid forties. I had the new ECU put in last fall and since then have only managed in the high 30's. Not sure if its the new ECU or just the winter fuel and cold temps. Must admit, the right hand has a little something to do with it too. But, from what I have experienced and heard from others, thirty is pretty low unless you just flogging it to death.

Ok i am watching the mpg not the avmpg i had a 1/2 tank that is 3.3 gals and went 92 miles before the light was blinking and the fuel trip came on im sure i could have went a few miles berfore i ran out but i didnt dare chance .

Im blaming it on cold weather its stilll very cold in northern maine its been in the high 30 to low 40s the days i have been riding im sure it will get better with warm weather .

Ok i have been reading this topic from the begining. Last year i was getting 40 to 45 mpg and this year it's down to 34 to 35 mpg and the overall fuel usage for a full tank of fuel was over avg 200 miles per tankfull to 140 per tankfull this year.

The question i have is the garbage fuel we are being sold with 10% ehenol in it. Iam in Mass does Maine have the same Crap fuel we have in Mass how about other states that have this blended fuel whats the avarage fuel milage.

I had been thinking for a while now that the crap fuel additives were responsible for the lousy mileage I've been experiencing. But earlier this week I had a meeting in North Adams MA so I had a round trip distance of about 270 miles that day. I got over 43 mpg (my highest ever) And I wasn't lallygagging along either. Rt 2 and route 112 invite some strong throttle twists.

I can only guess that the relatively sedate pace on the eastern Massachusetts portions were responsible for the increased mileage. My normal mileage is 39-40. FWIW.

I think what i will do is fill up with regular gas and run her till she is empty then fill up with super and see how far she goes .

I was woundering if it was the terriable fuel we are getting .

I was thinking about putting fstbagr for the plate.

Higher octane doesn't yield more energy, it's just stable at higher compression ratios (more resistant to preignition/detonation). The compression ration on an FJR doesn't warrant anything higher than 87.

If the ethanol/MTBE/whatever additives they're using are the same ratios from grade to grade, paying more for the gas won't help.

I'm afraid we're going to see more of this as ethanol is pushed harder. With fuel costing what it does now, coupled with mileage impacted by lower-energy gasoline blends, people are going to freak out.

dstray,

Down here in southern Maine, I can nearly always get mid 40s to low 50 mpg on my geared lower '05.

Jeez, with the price of gas up there, don't waste your money on high test, you don't need it. Gary is absolutely correct.

I always liked: LQQKER, LQQKIN, etc. You can get on the State of Maine website and check to see which plates are still available. You can even type in what you want and you can see what it will look like.

Hope you get some warmer weather soon. Here, it's been 60s to low 80s the past 2 weeks, all the snow is GONE! :yahoo:

(I think dstray lives about 250 miles or more north of me.)

Looks like the gas mileage thing has been covered rather well, so.....how about on the tags HILLARY or CLINTON or NOOBAMA or NOMCAIN or REPUKES or DEMSUCK or, not in the political arena, but IH8UMOR or KSMYAZZ or CHITETR. Oh well, just food for thought. :) The Hound

P.S. If your life insurance is paid up, you could always try HDBLOWS, HDSUXIT, or something on that order. Might be better to stick with GOD is my Co-pilot if you figure out how to get it on there in 7 letters. Good luck with your decision :)

"V1 ROT8" Is what I'm thinking about. I'm sure it will be confusing to many, but some will know what it is...

Just wanted to add my .02 about the fuel milage. I bought a 07' AE about a month ago. I was getting around 39-41 mpg with temps in the low 30's to mid 40's. I got back from a 553 mile 2 day trip today (Will post details later) and now have 1300 miles on my bike, the temp was high 30's to high 50's and my average mpg increased to 41-46 mpg. Don't know if the motor is broke in alittle more now or the temp has something to do with the increase, but I've never averaged anything under 38 mpg even in the very low temps. No ideas on the personal plates.

30MPG doesnt sound right

I thought mine was low compared to alot of others on this forum.

My 06 has consistantly gotten 40-42 since day one

I bought it in the Summer with temps in the 100's, rode it all winter as low as 35 degrees. I now have 6k miles and still get the same 40 mpg. The onboard computer AVG MPG has been with in 1 mile accuracy on every tank of gas. I'm really impressed with how well that thing works.

Try for H82BL8 "Hate to be late" for your tag or 08 FJR
