I would appriciate any input someone has.

I would like to listen to my MP3 player using in helmet bluetooth speaker setup. I don't care to talk on the phone or to have bike to bike or pillon conversation, just me.

I currently use the ErR6I in ear speakers with the MP3 player which sounds good but the wires are a pain and sometime they break their seal causing me to pull over and take the helmet off.

I may need a bluetooth transmitter for the MP3 player, but I just got a blackberry curve from work which I believe has bluetooth and can definetly play my MP3 music via its music player.

I realize the sound quality is not going to be as good as the in ear plugs. I also wear custom molded ear plugs when riding.

I may add a Zumo 550 later on which I would want to link to the helmet, but that is a later purchase.

My helmet is a Shoei RF1000 which does not have deep ear pockets. I was able to put a Scala Rider FM speaker in it today at a local shop and it is a small speaker that seemed to fit well with the helmet on (ear did not press against the speaker).

What suggestions do you have for a simple set up for me that works well and I could hear my music at highway speeds?

I've seen somebody use this to act as the microphone and BT receiver (stereo) and put it in the chin of the helmet.

You can run your helmet speakers off of it inside your helmet (sold seperately).

Then you need to get your music player to send stereo BT. Perhaps try one of these:

I just got one in the mail today. Haven't played with it, but that should do it.

If your phone does music, this will handle calls as well, since the oricore has a mic in it. That keeps it all inside the helmet, nothing sticking out the sides, etc.

I've not done this setup.... the helmet idea was one I was looking at that I got off another forum.

me? I'm going to go wired via starcom until this BT thing moves a bit further. It's not where it should be. yet.

also worth noting is whether or not you are broadcasting (and receiving) in stereo. The oricore stuff does it, wiRevo does. Zumo does NOT. Not sure about your blackberry.

Make an offer, I've been thinking about the teamset for passenger communication.

I have the 550 and I don't think it transmitts Bluethooth.

it does (not aware of this as a difference in the zumo 550 range...). you can connect your phone via bluetooth, and then connect a headset via bluetooth.

So you could link up everything wirelessly...... but in mono.....

Good info so far. I was not aware of a difference in bluetooth 1.2 vs 2.0 Other than stereo does 2.0 offer better sound quality because it is faster?

It's not BT version that does stereo, it is A2DP. I think the newer BT is faster and uses less power? (ie longer battery life). Quality I don't think will differ between either.

However, you need to make sure your devices can talk to each other, not all BT versions are the same. This bit is tricky. I'd find what other people use and use that as a resource for compatibility...there aren't many things out there that people HAVEN'T tried. zumoforums is good for more zumo info & BT.

ZUMO 550 via BT to Scala in the helmet. Scala is not stereo, but if I wanted a perfect sound I would be sitting on the couch in my living room :)
