Lo RPM Roll-On Odd Engine Vibration

I just came off a long trip bringing my total miles to 3,500. I noticed the low-rpm "growl" quite a bit. Didn't sound bad - just noticed it under the same conditions you've described. I'm coming off a cruiser and 3k rpm sounds very comfortable to me and I'm having difficulty running the bike consistently at higher rpms. I'll admit the bike seems very happy at 4k and I need to work mentally to keep it up there.

And the owners manual says you should be in forth gear before 32mph. Sure would shake it up then, even with mild throttle. Maybe the author never rode one.
