If you were going to attempt commute on it, or try to tour long distances, I don’t think I would choose a Moto Guzzi. But if you are just wanting it to scratch an itch, toodle around town, maybe ride a few dirt roads, hell ya, why not?
I was thinking of possibly picking up a smaller Goose, a V7 maybe, for that purpose. I’ve still got my FJR and my Africa Twin, and for dirt road forays I can highly recommend the latter. But, on a hot day, when you just want to blast around townfor a bit to cool off, a smaller street bike seemed like a good idea.
I ended up buying a used Bonneville T100. The bike is a total blast. It’s the size bikes used to be back in the 1970’s. Twin shocks. Looks every bit like an old school bike, but my 2017 Triumph has electronic ignition, fuel injection, ABS, fly-by-wire and traction control. It does scratch an itch, but isn’t a pain in the *** either.
You didn’t really explain what your goals are with the Stelvio. I see a lot of riders in the northeast on the things. Maybe our dealer network is better up here? But when you work on your own bikes, can order parts on line, and din’t need the thing to be as reliable as a Honda, well…
I should mention that, although small, the bike’s ergonomics are incredibly good. Low seat height, upright riding position similar to my AT. Fantastic fuel mileage (may become important soon). But I’m sure that it’s not everyone’s cup ‘a tea.
