Don't hate on all mechanics. Not all of us are ****-ups.
+1

I agree. Most mechanics, especially motorcycle mechanics, are conscientious. There have been times, tho'

The HFM who poked slits in the spark plug wires on my Norton. I discovered them next time it rained, and I got fairly intense electrical shocks where my legs happened to be close to the wires

I insisted the shop replace the coils, as well as the wires. Still not sure why the mechanic felt it necessary to pierce those wires.

More recently, the local Yamaha mechanic had a wrench slip as he was checking the steering bearings, and scratched the instrument cluster bezel

As mentioned lucky it didn't turn out alot worse! The day I rode my new 06 home from the dealer I found the front axel nut hanging on by only two threads.....needless to say I checked "every" fastener I could on the bike. It's now part of my regular maintainence. Doing your own work is well worth it and you sleep better at night. Take care, PM. ;)

And, them those there are allowed to work on planes (helicopters), buses, trains and long haul trucks. Just don't let them ride FJRs without helmets or lean their bikes on trees

You know me so well.....

edit:My wife would be jealous....

That's why I do my own work. I only have myself to blame.

^^^ This is exactly my philosophy. I've seen too many mistakes done on my vehicles by others to trust anyone to work on my bikes. Then again, I have a lot of experience working on mechanical things, including many years on airplanes.
