I agree with most of the responses - level with them. They may be surprised at your honesty and willingness to accept accountability that they treat you totally different than what you may expect.

I guess, put yourself in their shoes - how would you want to be approached about the loss of the unit?

BTW - the previous Rider HAS been discontinued and a new version's coming out. The Euro models are on the market right now...
Well, I did just that. I went in yesterday- no bitchin about the mount or issues about responsibility. Just told him what happened and offered to pay cost for the unit. He said he'd call Tomtom and see what they said about the mount.

I went back in today. Smart, smart parts guy- had it all worked out. Said that, through some fluke, he'd come by an extra Tomtom. Only thing I'd have to pay for was another chip, and I could buy that at his cost ($50 or so). So, I had my penance, he'd worked something out with TOmtom, and everybody was happy. Kicker is that he's ready to put another loaner on the bike for my trip west at the end of the week. Think I'll go in and buy one tomorrow instead.

Just never know how things are gonna work out.

Wow, congrats on working all that out and my props to both you and the dealer for working that out fair and square.

It's not everyday you see this kind of cooperation.

See, honesty and taking a certian amount of responsibility can pay off. I mean this is the first time i have ever seen it but i knew it had to happen :)

-excellent deal man!

Now it's time to see how honest the rep from TomTom really is.

TomTom knows about reported problems with their mount, and they sent their registered customers a safety strap and urged them to install and use it when mounting the unit. I've never had any issue with the mount myself, but out of the blue, I got a package from TomTom one day. It contained a very short tether (attaches to the TomTom Rider), a slightly longer lanyard with a spring clip (attaches to the mount) and an instruction sheet covering installation.

If the dealer wasn't aware of this when he installed the unit, there is a disconnect between the manufacturer and their retailers. Tell your dealer about this!

Good luck!

Not to mention the level of credibility you've established for yourself with the dealer... That means a lot, as it is very scarce to find in this day an age!

You did the "right" thing here!!

Glad to hear everything worked out well between you and the dealer. It's a nice reminder that sometimes when you do the right thing it all works out well in the end. :)
