I'm 36 and I refuse to grow up. I have a "Mid-Life Crisis" Corvette (according to my wife), and an FJR. I like going fast, and I love the torque. I'm worth more than I owe, and I save 25% on my income every year. I listen to almost every type of music, except gangster rap and most country music. I'm an NRA member, and soon to be an AMA member.
On top of that I'M PAYING FOR THE BABY BOOMER SOCIAL SECURITY MESS!!!! I'm required to pay it, and I'll never see a dime of it! :diablo:

As a soon to be retired BB, Thanks. :clapping:

What makes you think some of us BBs are ever going to collect SS?? I don't expect to see a dime in benefits, and all that would mean is that I've paid for it longer than you have. Sounds to me like we have the same bitch and outlook. I don't expect to ever be able to retire, though the ex might. I'm kinda thinking of retirement and health care solutions 10 or so years from now as one and the same: 9 MM. I've finally gotten to the point of accepting that it is beyond my control and of being resigned to just riding my motorcycles and enjoying the non-work parts of my days the best I can -- while I'm still healthy, reasonably fit AND can still afford gasoline. :(

Realize that I probably just ventured into the "likely to result in political discussion" arena. Admins: please edit or delete if deemed appropriate.

Was 16 when I bought (my own $$$) my first bike --- 37 HD (wish I had that bike now).

70 plus today and still ride street and dirt. Stay in shape; you're only as old as you feel.

26 y/o here. I ride too much for a sport bike to be practical in my mind. wind protection and hard luggage are key. I rode 1900 miles Easter wknd.

I don't know about that. I've got a topcase for my CBR, and I've done a Saddle Sore 1000 AND a Bun Burner Gold 1500 on it. :p

Here's a picci of my and my 'Blade after completing an endurance rally.

So touring with power is not an age thing...it's a money thing and its for those that like wandering for hundreds of miles at a time.
You got that right! At the Iron Butt National Meet I was the youngest there by about 10 years. The comment was made that this is probably because of how much it actually costs to tour (and LD ride) on a bike.

37 years old.

Previous bike was a Big Bear Choppers Venom ProStreet. Built her myself, BBC sells them as a kit. After a year of riding, my GF had it with the rear "seat" on the chopper. It was "cool" but not practical and we wanted to start riding longer distances together.

Thought about a BMW but didn't feel like dropping 20k on a bike - did that with the chopper (and then some). So my choices were ST1300 or FJR1300. Why the Yammie? 1. Didn't want a black bike (ST1300) and 2. I'm a technology fan; saw the AE and figured, what the hell - I'll give it a try.

You, sir, sound like my kind of guy! I have been in the insurance and investment business for 40+ years. If your saving 25% of your income (and you have a good income) you will be set for life at age 55. RETIRE THEN!!! I retired at 55. Best thing I ever did. Put a lot of that 25% in Roth IRA"s and self direct it!

And as far as SS goes. Some form of it will be around when you retire. Don't worry. (I'll be dead then, so I don't really care) but make sure you keep up your payments, at least for the next 19 years! That's just about the time you should be rich and retiring, and if my plan goes right, I'll be broke and dying.

I also hope I owe the Tax man about a Mill.

I couldn't talk you into paying for my funeral then, could I??

similar phenomenom with the fj group list. buncha mostly late-30, 40, and 50 year olds that ride like crazy and act like kids at christmas when it comes to fj rallies.

i'm 41. altho i bought a 1981 yamaha xs400 special (ooh, do drum brakes on the front make it special?) when i was 21, and sold it when i was 24, i always had the fever for a motorcycle afterwards, and bought a slightly used fj when i was 32 and i've never looked back. bought another fj a year ago, and now the fjr last month.

i don't know if it's an age thing for me, as i wouldn't mind a hooligan bike like a speed triple, fz-1, or superduke. but i can still ride the crap outta the fj, and plan to do some serious peg grinding with the fjr, and then ride it to work 75% of the year. maybe the fjr is like that type of woman, can wear a t-shirt and throw a baseball better than your college roommate, but can be sophisticated in an evening dress.

i think a small part of me might also like the fact that i'd rather be surprisingly fast on an fj or fjr, than disappointingly slow on a gsxr/zx/abcde bike. ( :

Everybody will be talking Bob Dylan and I'll be talking Depeche Mode....
Holy CRAP dude! I about fell out of the chair reading this!
You are not alone with the Depeche Mode over Dylan! :lol2:

Oh... almost 34 here.

I was at the Honda dealer explaining some technical points about a CBR to some young lads.

What are you riding? That red Honda out there (ST1100) That old man's Bike? Old? Why yes, want me to go home and get my leathers and CBR? I'll race you for some cash. No, sorry dude.

Talked to by Smokey the bear in the park on route 211 in VA while riding with two 19 yr old army guys. One guy and I were parked drinking water, and the other was doing 60mph power wheelies in what is probably a 25 mph zone. Smokey points to me and says he saw me doing at least 75mph earlier. Me? I want you guys to leave now, I've seen enough of you today! And you have a lot of gray in your beard to to be out here with these young guys. Damn! I didn't know whether to be proud or offended. LOL

Good stuff. Rock on my man!! I said in MY mind a sport bike isn't what I'd want on a SS1K. my usual riding partner is on a busa he doesn't feel he needs a STer for the rides we do...I guess I'm just 26 going on 57. I ride speed limits, or +10 and enjoy my heated grips and jacket liner. Yeah, I'm old.
