After reading these posts I'm happy to say that I may be 54, but I'm still 185 lbs of hard-chargin', low-crawlin', straight-shootin', blue-steeled sex appeal!!!! ;)

So here I was, thinking I was one of the younger pilots in this geriatric crowd..

but alas, again, what I get for thinking..

50 revolutions around the sun later, I'm still here.. and ROCKIN!

...and, no, not in a rocking chair either! :****:

"Mature" You mean I have to start acting my age?????? I'm way too old to even consider changing my way's now.

Hi all, this is my first post on the FJRforum; I am 40. Glad to see that there are 70 year olds still acting like 18 year olds (at least thats what my wife would say) :yahoo:

PS I noticed that there was someone from Morgantown WV; I thought i was the only FJR in town. Hey, we should go for a spin some day when it warms back up!!

Everybody will be talking Bob Dylan and I'll be talking Depeche Mode....
Holy CRAP dude! I about fell out of the chair reading this!
You are not alone with the Depeche Mode over Dylan! :lol2:

Oh... almost 34 here.
PLEASE NO DEPECHE MODE!!!!!

I had a roommate that played all 11 versions of "Personal Jesus" every day.

What band does 11 versions of the same song?!

Screw Dylan, I want, RUSH, Floyd, Mettalica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Zeppelin, Bush, BOC, Collective Soul, Joe Satriani, etc I think you get the idea.

Is it a generalization to say that the majority of FJR riders have acquired many miles in the seat and in life. It just struck me after looking at pictures I have taken with other FJR riders. I have to admit not too many squids run out and buy an FJR for their first bike. Maybe it's an aquired taste. I'm 63 and after riding mostly sport bikes I find sitting behind the windscreen of the FJR a good fit. Any youngish riders on the FJR?
Soon to be 46 and really enjoying my FJR. Still have a cruiser but prefer the super sport-touring instead.

56 here and I have no intention of slowing up..or down for that matter. I'm on my second FJR but still enjoy riding my daughter's Ducati 749 dark or my husband's Busa & Wing. The only style bike I've never been comfortable on is a cruiser. Started on sportbikes and cruisers just feel ackward to me. My husband and I were riding with a group in Alaska several years ago. There was a couple on the tour with us..the gentleman was 72 and his wife was 71..they both rode bikes! They were the coolest people on that trip! As long as I can hold the bike up I'll be riding too!

Well I guess I'll chime in here, and on the fifth page, wow this thread really took off. I'm 52 and been riding motorcycles for 40 years, lots of different bikes, dirt, street, race, in varying combinations over the years. But I will have to say the FJR is one hell of a motorcycle, it doesn't corner as well as a R1, or tour as well as a Goldwing, but surprisingly close on both accounts. At my stage in life and riding style it fits very well,,,,,,,,,,Lee

Good Gereralization. I'm 64 and I'm on a Valk and an ST1100. Soon to be on an FJR or the new Concours 1400.

But please do not discourage the squids from getting an FJR as a first bike. We "elderly" guys and gals then get a great change to buy a almost new FJr from one of those squids when they figure out that the saddle bags are not for them. The Generation X people will sell a $14K bike they owe $13.5K on for 10K just to get what they want.

I asked my 25 year olds son why his friend sold his car for 3K less than his loan to get a car he really wanted. My son's answer-----"Welcome to Genreation X"

Keep the young squids buying new FJRs. Maybe there is a very good deal out there for us "wiser" ie:eek:ld

I gotta ask. 253 posts (as of writing this) and you aren't sure if you want to buy an FJR? Huh?

48I find the good thing about alzthiemers is that you make new friends every day.

I posted that on another forum and got a whole bunch of very angry, empty PM's.

LOL!!! I like that comment.

My profile puts me as one of the older riders here, but then again I may not be telling the truth about my age. If I were to be truthful, I MAY be on the younger end of the spectrum. I'm old enought to know what I like, and I like this bike.

Bought the 05 FJR at age 45. Very soon to be 47 with 07-Cherie.

Lost count of how many motorcycles I have ridden or owned over the years. MY first street bike was a used/wrecked 1975 BMW R60/5 and I was 18 at the time. Guess I have never fit anybody's mold.

What were we talking about???

Got my '05 in '05 when I was 31.

My first bike (03 BMW F650CS) just wasn't going to cut it for me on a two week ride with my old man to Sturgis and the 'long way' back.

Isn't it time for warm milk and cookies for you old guys ? A little past the bed time, eh? :p

First bike at 10, first FJR at 44.

You, sir, sound like my kind of guy! I have been in the insurance and investment business for 40+ years. If your saving 25% of your income (and you have a good income) you will be set for life at age 55. RETIRE THEN!!! I retired at 55. Best thing I ever did. Put a lot of that 25% in Roth IRA"s and self direct it!
And as far as SS goes. Some form of it will be around when you retire. Don't worry. (I'll be dead then, so I don't really care) but make sure you keep up your payments, at least for the next 19 years! That's just about the time you should be rich and retiring, and if my plan goes right, I'll be broke and dying.

I also hope I owe the Tax man about a Mill.

I couldn't talk you into paying for my funeral then, could I??

I'll have to pass on paying for your funeral. I have two others to pay for instead. My parents. I love them both very much, but they didn't do much to take care of themselves in their "Golden Years" They both will hit 60 this year, and they still have too much debt to pay off. I guess that will be where my retirement moneys goes to. I'm not complaining about it. It just sucks to know what's really down the road.

Wasn't it Silver Penguin's age and what she likes?

Wonder if it is a soon-to-be 50 year old, hmmmm?

:p

I am apparently one of the youngsters here at 38. Found this thread funny because when I first got my FJR and wanted to go out riding with some other FJR riders my wife thought I'd get killed because everyone was young and stupid, pulling stunts on the interstate like we were on Gixxers or something. (She was more than happy to let me go on poker runs with other Shadow 600 owners, knowing that 37HP would not even allow me to lift the front wheel).

I showed her quite a few of the threads with pics and that the average FJR owner "appears" (generalization here) to be a more "mature" group than others out there. Scab's story about nearly amputating his arm opening mouthwash only cemented that belief in her mind. :) and she is now convinced that the FJR owners are more mature than the steet bikers we see tearing down our country road each day.

BTW, I am saying this in a positive maner, not meant to offend anyone. I think this forum is great and the people here very helpful so no flames please....and Scab, I mentioned your story b/c I thought not only was it extremely well written but very entertaining...no offense meant.
