I am considering purchasing the McCruise for my 09 FJR. Kind of expensive but what the heck I am dropping $900 on a new Russell seat so why not go totally in debt while riding the bike and be comfortable doing it. My question is this.. I don't feel comfortable installing this myself. Anyone know someone in Western PA area that would want a job if I decide to go through with this or can most dealers do this? Thanks

The directions that come with the McCruise are very good. Most issuses that anyone has will come up during the calibration steps. The support from McCruise is very good. I had to contact them during the calibration and it turned out I had the polarity set wrong on one step. Simple fix. and I was on my way.
If you are hadny at all with tools and take your time you will have no problem doing it. One thing you might want to do at the same time is the PAIR block off plates because it gives more room to put the cable interface module. It will take a full day maybe two depending on how much time you take to layout and fit the pieces together. I did mount mine slightly different because I wanted to keep the space under the seat for tools and stuff.

I have a McCruise installed on my 06AE and did it on my own. You need to really pay attention to the cable routing otherwise you end up with a stiffer throttle pull. I'm on the east side of Toronto so it would be more than a day trip for me to come and give you a hand plus I really don't have any free time until after the holidays.

I too installed this in my 06. The installation instructions are excellent. The best I've ever seen. You do however need to follow every, and I mean every single instruction in detail. There isn't a work missing but equally not a word to many and if you do it as it says, exactly, you won't have any problems. It is an excellent bit of kit, top quality, robust construction, very well thought out and works very well indeed. I took my time to read and re-read the instructions, was very methodical with the installation, checked and re-checked and it took me around 8hrs on a Saturday and 4 hrs on a Sunday morning to install.

Thanks for the suggestion networkguy but after my russell seat addition in a month or two the only real thing left that I would like to add will be the cruise on the 09. Besides I hate the 2013 color. Maybe the 2014 will be better.

Know of anyone that uses the Rostra unit? I've had my '07 since new and I think I'm ready for a real cruise control.....

I have used the Rostra unit for 75,000 miles on my 2008. I installed it myself in about 6 hours. It works just fine, is not 'fancy', but ---well, it maintains speed (without the limit as on the 2013 bikes).

I was able to purchase a McCruise from a fellow FJR rider that sold his FJR before installing it. Now I just have to find someone to install it. Looking through the paperwork and not being very mechanically inclined I think I am going to take it to a local dealership and have them do it for me. (They have never done it before locally) If someone knows a dealership in Western PA or Eastern Ohio or Western NY that has done this let me know. Just afraid too many things can go wrong if I try to do this myself...
As already mentioned by others, instructions for MC Cruise are very detailed and presize and kit has all what you need for installatin included. From my experience it is also very good chance how to learn a bit more about your bike. If you have a minor experience with mechanics you will be able to installed it yourself. There is very little chance that you will destroy something.
This is the way it works ---Start out with a clean secure space and a 3/8 and 1/4 inch metric socket set/decent screw driver collection/a few pliers/open and box end wrenches. If you can start there - and have the time, and able to take your time, this is something you can do. The sad truth is if you take this to a shop somewhere, the kid who normally changes tires will learn on your bike. Doing this yourself will give you the ability to fuss with it in the future and chances are -----
Ok you guys talked me into doing the install myself. I am to the "unhooking of the Throttle cable". This is a pain in the butt as I don't l know for sure what I a looking for. Hoping a few days away from it will help my frustration level come down... LOL May have to offer Yamafitter room and board and some gas money to help this spring....
Well I made the leap and after cursing you guys (telling me that I could install it myself) a few times while working on it I was able to get it hooked up. The diagnostics all passed. Now I just have to wait to get a little warmer (only 22 right now) to try the road test. I would like to apologize to each of you for cursing you wondering what you got me into. If your ears have been burning during the last week or two you now know why... I apologize...LOL

It comes with an <angel harps> installation manual </angel harps> You pay $240 for the hardware and $700 for the manual. Pretty soon McCruise will discover that they can sell a supplemental video for $200 to show you what you just read in the manual :lol:
gee...can i just buy the hardware for 240 then? everything i was seeing was 900 beans for a cruise crontrol...i almost fell off the seat....or am i wrong on this? if i'm right...how can they justify almost a grand for it? inquiring mind would love to know?
