I went for a ride on a well known tight twisty road, Mines road, those in the Bay area will know it well. My friends on a

Tuono R and the other on a ZX9. They literally torched me. I felt embarrassed that I was so slow. Oh both of them are ex-track racers, not an excuse just a reason. But I am a little slow in the tight stuff. It almost felt like I was riding the special little yellow bus to school.

Dude, don't feel bad those bikes weigh much less and coupled with your buds experience what else could you expect.

I was in the mountains of n.c. last week and got hooked up with 4 sport bikers and felt good to keep them in sight in the tight stuff,so don't feel bad.

Being spanked by guys on true sport bikes with race experience is nothing to be ashamed of.....especially on a sport tourer....walk it off....you did fine.....no dishonour in being spanked....(in this case) now if it had been 2 HD's.....well that would be different :derisive: ....

+1

This is a reality everytime i go riding with the group in my area... All of them on sport bikes and me on the couch... But i am not complaining after a measley 30 mile ride through the twisties like they do! :D

OK... let's ride 500 miles and see which feels worse: spanked or monkey butt.

Apples to oranges.

I used to think that there were alot of sportbikes out there but I realized that I was passing the same ones over and over again. They might pass me on the twisites but the FJR always catches them at the ***-REST-Stop or the gas station.

Not a fair comparison, my friend. I've ridden with you and you have nothing to be ashamed of. I rode both my R1 and my FJR to the Berryessa area this weekend. I don't go any quicker on the R1 than I do on the FJR on the tight road between Napa and Moskowite. I used to go quicker until March, 2000. I wrecked my bike, broke 3 ribs and my right wrist. Somehow the R1 isn't as quick as it used to be.

BTW, I hate Mines Road. Just a personal thing.

Send Highlander or ExSkiBum out with them and see how much of it is equipment-related.

Not saying you're slow....Just saying who isn't. I've followed both of those guys and they can ride an FJR.

I know a guy (retired firefighter) who could probably give 'em a good chase on his Goldwing....

I've really never ridden with any sportbikers. Also never been passed by any while solo (probably just coincidence).

Nothing to be ashamed of there Mike. An FJR vs. the ZX9 in capable hands ain't ever gonna happen. I've witnessed from a great vantage point on Hwy49 south of Coulterville first hand what a group of fast sport bike guys can do on tight twisty public highways. It just so happened that the lead bike was a ZX-9. You can carve it up quite well on the FJR and surprise many a squid, but a full on sport bike eater it'll never be.

And the advice from SBE should be well heeded, let them go, you'll always beat the ambulance response time.

Hey its ok. Don't feel bad, I can't keep up with Highlander, ExSkibum or OrangevaleFJR and Sherri taking pics. But its fun trying....PM. <>< :D

Lets see if I got the store straight?

you rode an FJR on the twisty's

you made it home safe

sounds like a WINNER of a day to me!

Anyone that bought or expected their FJR to keep up with sportbikes is in for a reality check. Apples and oranges!

It's a great ride but I don't pretend it's a racer :)

I rode to Lake Tahoe today, then I took 89 up the West side of Tahoe and I ate in Tahoe City. I had a reuben. Then I rode home. 220 miles round trip and I remember the waterfalls on the smooth granite of the Sierra more than the reuben, but the reuben was pretty good.

The only sport bikes I saw were going the other way...I didn't care. The South side of Emerald Bay on 89 is a magical place on a bike...'

Sorry...what was this thread about?

Just think of the terribble draft that they must endure with that silly little screen!

I like Mines Rd. but if I'm gonna race on it the bike's gotta have pedals and then I'm just as likely to lose as I am trying to beat a Tuono and ZX9 with an FJR. Not the best road for racing motorcycles anyway.
