She told me on Saturday that she was leaving yesterday . . . . so, barring complications, I imagine the answer is yes.

Hey guys! We're in Farmington CT = about 960 km on Day 1. All interstate which, in Mass, was plugged with traffic - on Sunday! Whassup with that ?!

Left Freddy Beach in pouring rain. Almost immediately, my WP gloves were wet as was my left sleeve at the elbow (first time for the sleeve business). Met up with Charlie Hoss and Arlene for lunch in Auburn ME (GREAT to see Charlie -just like it was to have coffee with Canadian FJR and Gypsy last week  ).

Rain and drizzle finally cleared off around Augusta and Mass was sunny. Did a bonehead thing in Mass - followed someone else's directions and turned east when I KNEW, KNEW, KNEW better!

At any rate, we're here. And Bramfrank ..... the Zumo performed almost admirably. We'll talk later.

Oh, and if anyone reading this doesn't yet have sliders installed, they work. Just sayin' ..... <_<

And if any N Caroliners are reading.... we'll have 7 days in NC and want to avoid the Dragon on the weekend. We'll be based in Chapel Hill. I was thinking I'd like to ride the Outer Banks but am now rethinking that plan. Your thoughts ?

It's sunny and 52 degrees. Breakfast and a shower, check my beat-up bike and on the road again :yahoo: Hwy 84 to 81. We'll see how far we get today

Sorry to hear about the slider testing MEM. Stuff happens.

Enjoy the ride and soak it all in, it's gotta last you the next 5 months!. Wish I was there again.

Feel for you having to ride I-81 through VA, can you say B-O-R-I-N-G. the trucks rule that highway and there are tons of cops.

I suggest you might want to do the 84 (or the roads that parallel it) and then exit at the first opportunity in PA . . . follow the roads down the Delaware River (PA 209, but get above the escarpment and into the hills) - the Delaware Water Gap Natinal Recreational Area - they are a LOT of fun!!!

Use the nav to look for places like 'Hollow Road' and such when you are in the area.

Then Highway 33, to US 22, 422 and so on, working your way down to Fort Royal, which is the top of Skyline Drive.

I stayed at the Quality Inn there at the south end of town the last time I was there - reasonably priced, reasonable quality.

As to the Zumo - note that aside from the little quirks like shutting off, it performs BASIC navigator functions fairtly well - but my main complaints lie with;

- the fact that they charge a huge premium and provide little that works properly in terms of extras for the money.

- the screen detail is iunsufficient ito let you see secondary roads (including the one you are on) unless you are zoomed in tight - and then you can't see far enough ahead to do any of the fun rides that are just out of the reach of the display.

- It would be nice if the darned thing announced the upcoming dtreet names in the banner bar the way my 760 does (and all previous units did). Yes, you can see then names of MOST streets on the map itself if you are zoomed in close enough and have detail set to 'max', but not ALL streets display, even in that mode - and then you can;t tell if a road goes through or whether it is just the name that cuts it off . . . .

There's more, but don't get me started . . . . . oih. Too late.

Can't wait to see pics and hear all about it!

WAY better day today! only 678 km but early stop, I've resurrected The Blog (I'm on my 3rd beer so it should be good), no tipovers today, no rain - it's ALL GOOD! (crap, I just aspirated my beer)

We're in Winchester, VA. Going to hit the Skyline Drive in the morning and Blue Ridge Parkway over to NC tomorrow to Mark's friend's place in North Carolina. Steve - you're right about the freaking trucks! UNbelievable and tiring since they toss me around pretty good. Speed limit's good here, didn't see any LEO's; doesn't mean they weren't out and about - I just didn't see them. The Feej makes quick work of the trucks but they ARE a pain.

Barb - I have 82 photos already. And some really good ones from the bike :)

I think we're going to rule out the Outer Banks ....

Bramfrank - Zumo keeps popping up 2 messages: "USB cable plugged into the wrong port" and "this accessory is not supported" . I don't have anything to clean the contacts with - maybe that's it. The first message showed up the first time during a monsoon coming home from CFR. I figured the rain did something to it. I'll try to clean it tomorrow and go from there.

MaryEllen

That error message is a known issue - that 'USB' connector at the end of the umbilical is sensitive to moisture and when it gets wet it thinks that there's something connected which clearly is not a traffic or MSN Direct receiver.

The error should clear when it dries up.

I stuck the connector on mine in a plastic bag with some dessicant (silica that came with something else) and sealed it shut (it was dry before I did that).
