Most of us should be home by now.

We modified the route because Hwy 4 was closed over Ebbetts Pass. And the clouds over the

Sierras were ominous, so we changed the route to:

South on Hwy 49 to Angels Camp, R on Hwy 4, R on Poole Station Rd, then Northeast to San Andreas. We then got back on Hwy 49 North to Mokulmne Hill, R on Hwy 26 through Glencoe and West Point to Pioneer. R on Hwy 88 and L on Pioneer-Volcano Rd. to Volcano.

From there the uberkuls led us yo Rams Horn Grade, L on Shake Ridge, R on Hale Rd. to L on Fiddletown Rd through Fiddletown and downhill to Plymouth, across Hwy 49 and stopped at Incahoots for barbecue lunch. :yahoo:

After that everyone went their own ways to other roads, home and other obligations.

I followed rocknfjrs and Bluestreeks North on Hwy 49 through Placerville, R on Hwy 193 through Georgetown and on to Auburn where I turned Westward toward home.

:clapping: A 250+ mile rid on lovely roads with great people. :clapping:

Great day with friends old and new and the weather cooperated. Thanks again Mike and all who helped and for a job well done for a good ride on this Memorial Day weekend. And thanks to those in our military who are and who have served and especially to those who gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedom we now have. God bless America. PM. <><

;)

Hey all.

Excellent job on the Plan B routing MadMike. The road was very entertaining. And even though I had no idea where I was, I sure enjoyed it.

I'm sure everyone will agree that the weather could not have been nicer. And of course, the company wasn't too bad either. Great seeing everyone.

I only got a couple of snapshots, so I'm hoping the rest of you guys will be adding yours. Thanks again everyone.

I waited for company in Rancho Murieta, and someone "Streeked" by me. Wasn't able to catch them.

Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

Other "shutterbugs" (Old Michael, Hycle) were snapping photos of the people at various gathering spots and lunch, so I took pictures of some of the roadways and riders.

When I turned East from Hwy 99 onto Liberty Road it didn't take long before I cleared the taller trees and got a view of the Sierras some 50 miles away.

Hmmmm, those clouds don't look particularly inviting. Never mind that it is overcast and a bit gloomy where I'm riding. I was rather doubtful we'd be riding into the mountains...and what I could see cemented that opinion.

MemorialDay5-25-08005.jpg

So we rode down Hwy 49 and R on Hwy 4, then R on Poole Station Rd.

Then it was up Hwy 49 and R on Hwy 26. Hello ric-in-sacs and bluestreeks:

After our stop in Volcano (See Old Michael's picture in the opening thread), we followed uberkul to our lunch stop. Here is Painman and DrRich on Shake Ridge Rd.

Hey, Steve, are you ready for lunch? Why aren't the wives coming in?

Dan and his "Princess" next to Steve with the two "hungry" ladies...Cyndi and Karen, doing what comes naturally.....Even "Dapper" Old Michael can't believe it.

2 or 3 times today Bluestreek or I would key up our radios with a one word transmission:

"Wheeeeeeee!!!!" :yahoo:

Though we missed out on the longer ride over the Sierras on 3 great mountain passes (Carson, Monitor and Ebbetts), the roads we did ride were plenty of fun....

...and the company was excellent.

I really missed the Rogdebs. Get better, Roger, then come join us.

And JB...Neener, neener, neener! :bleh:

1) You were missed.

2) You really missed out.

Silent...you really were, and absent, too!

Another great northern CA ride !!!!!!!!!!!!! :yahoo: A cool morning ride from Rocklin to Jackson left us thinking this probably would not be the day to do the Sierra passes. Thanks to MM2. plan B was an excellent ride :clapping: The extra senic route that I came up with on my own to near the 5000 foot level was a little too cold so we were glad to rejoin the group in Plymouth for lunch. We enjoyed it very much--see everyone on the next ride :bike:

It sounds like you guys had alot of fun! Sorry I couldn't partake, I was busy trimming trees off the house and pulling muscles I didn't even know I had

Gary, thanks for scouting the "higher road" to make absolutely certain we made the right decision in staying low. And it was nice of you guys to check the temperatures up there, too.

Jerry, if you think those muscles are "talking" to you now, just wait until tomorrow.

Thanks for the great pictures. I had to go on google maps to see where you guys were. Hwy 99 is mainly familiar to me from Bakersfield to Fresno,CA, also little above. Yosimite comes to mind right out of Fresno (Hwy41). I got turned on to Central CA when I was in the Navy. I was stationed in Lemore, CA. I wish I'd had my FJR back then. I particularly remember going through Visalia, CA to spend time in the Sequoia mountains. Maybe one day I'll get back out there.

Good Memorial Day weekend to everyone,

Marco

OK, I screwed up today in SO many ways. . . First, I didn't check the board this morning when I first got up. So I didn't know Mad Mike had abandoned his plan to try to meet Old Michael and JB in Rio Vista. So here's me sitting at the Shell station on Pocket Road at 6 a.m. (I NEVER get up at 6 a.m.). When I was still alone at 6:15 I knew they weren't coming so I thought I'd just take my own ride and meet the group in Jackson. Well, I had a scenic ride into the delta, Grand Island and thereabouts, then headed home. Had some time so I checked the ride thread to see how all the plans had changed due to weather fears, etc. What pansies. Who believes the weather forecasts, anyway?

Well, as I do, I got lost in the world wide web for a while, and finally realized it was later than I thought and I had 35 minutes to get to Jackson. Learned the following: you can't make it to Jackson from my house in 35 minutes. So I got there maybe 10:10, maybe later, and the always-punctual group had already left. Since I enjoyed my ride in the delta so much, decided to do this part solo too. At least better than just turning around and going home. Anyway, maybe they weren't too far ahead and I could catch up. Hah!

So which way? 49 south was a possibility, but it was pretty clear and the sun was peeking through, so I made the left and started up Hwy 88. Mistake. Nice ride, though, until it started to rain lightly at somewhere between 4 and 5 thousand feet. Got some gas and decided to proceed. After all, I'd already seen the road behind me. It got colder, and it got rainier, and finally it got snowy, but just fine stuff, nothing on the road. As I summited Carson pass, at over 8,300 feet, I felt I'd dodged the bullet.

Just below Carson Pass:

IMG_0091.jpg

But by the time I made it to Ebbets Pass, at about 7,300', it was snowing like hell. Well, down to Meyers and dry again, so I made the left to climb up 50 for home. It was a damn blizzard going over Echo summit, back at 7,400'. My windshield was opaque with the snow covering it, and my face mask too. What kind of damn fool doesn't listen to the weather forecast, anyway? I didn't feel like stopping again for more pictures at that point.

So anyway, sorry I missed you guys. I'll try to be more punctual for future rides. And I'll ALWAYS listen to the weather forecasts from now on. At least I didn't hit anything in the road or get sideways in the snowstorm. Good to be back up on two wheels, too.

Looks like some good fun ....and that goofy weather .....geezers. Old ma nature is crazy girl sometimes.

Sorry you didn't make it, Mike. Wellll, you made it, just differently!

You're ride was much more...er...uhm..."interesting".

Your last ride was the "Attack of the Killer Road Rocks" and this one was "Snow? We Ain't Afraid of No Steenking Snow!" :dribble:

While you were surfing the net you should have checked: https://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/ for highway information. OR called 1-800-427-7623. Or called me..... ...Oh, wait, I left my house @ 0830 to get to Jackson on time to enjoy some warm liquid semi-nourishment and "FJR Family" social time. ;)

The last I read I thought you weren't "certain" to join us and were out playing with your new front wheel assembly on Friday. I guess you had a "test ride".

Uhhhh....next time?

Great pictures!

So the lesson from this weekend after Southern Ca and Northern Ca rides back to back:

1. All rides must meet at Starbucks.

2. All rides must include an obligatory VStrom.

So much to learn, so little time...

I think his exact words were.... Hey Mad Mike.... Could you speed it up, I am sitting here waiting for my Carmel Frappacino with double whipped cream.... Could you make sure they put a cherry on it.... And make sure that Dr. Rich and Hycle pay for it since I don't have any money left after paying for these designer sun glasses and having my hair styled.

Looks like a great ride and great turn out!

I love those roads up there. I went to Volcano a few years back, that's one isolated place, tiny too. Great I guess if your a postman or thespian, wild little theater they have in that canyon.

Excellent report guys... & gals!

I'm a weenie.
Dr. Rich, I've got 20 or 30 more pics of your mug, and hundreds of captions in mind. Don't get me started!

Hell, I could even send the photos to James Burleigh and have HIM provide the captions. Ooooooooh, that would be good!

Hey, it was a fun day, huh? Can I join the weenie club with all the big boys?
It was a great day....Mike (Hycle) and I rode the fast lane (80mph) home. Not much traffic...Fun people, good weather, challenging roads and new friends (Jeff D... enjoyed sharing lunch with you) . Rich
