Took a nice 300 mile jaunt in central WI with some STN guys today. I got home and saw cord in the center of the Metzeler Z6 rear OEM tire-with only 6682 miles on the odometer. I hoped to get more, but I also could have been a bit nicer to it. I abused it with lots of quick starts and roll-ons galore. I ride to work daily. It's 10 miles one way. Mukwonago Yamaha is 11 miles one way.

Which one way ticket should I buy?

Do cords showing mean I have a couple hundred increased risk miles ahead or should I be looking for the checkbook tonight?

Cords aren't showing throughout entire circumference of tire-two 4 inch strips only.

No, cords showing mean that you are already on borrowed time. Count yourself lucky, take the wheels off, and CARRY them to the dealer for new shoes.

Yup,

Cords means a new tire is over due...You should replace it right away... I had cords showing on a rear tire last year and I was about 400mi from home(on my Kawi). Rode it all the way home without any problems, BUT I really took it easy... It was pretty thin in the middle where the cords were showing. Get some new skins..IT AINT WORTH THE RISK!

Does anyone have a pic of a Z6 with the cords showing? I'm pushing 8k and it looks like the chunk of rubber in the center of the tire is good for another 8k, but I'm not sure about the placement of the cords in relationship to the rain channels.

Give 'em to Skooter...he'll squeeze out another 1,000 miles.
Hey now. Don't be pulling **** out of your *** and spreading misinformation! :angry2:

I could squeeze at least another 2,000 miles out of 'em! :D

Yo, Breadman - cords = replace ASAP! The only riding I would be doing is to the nearsest place to get a new tire.

El SkooterG showed up in Gila Bend three Thanksgivings ago with tires on his FJR that his Mexico riding friends "Fast Eddie" Quarles, Chuck "Frenchy" Doucet and I wouldn't have ridden to the closest Circle K store on! He then proceeded to ride with us all the way to Cabo San Lucas and back. We would make the Stations of the Cross every time he would ride next to us, afraid that his skins would let go and take us out too. Iggy speaks the truth, la Verdad! Breadman, just send your Metzeler's on to Greg and he'll spoon them on and ride them at least as far as Santa Rosalia en Baja California Sur. Adios muchachos, Chuy Medina "El Burrito Ballerina"

My bad, TWN. Metzeler Roadtec Z6.

Hey, at least SOMEONE is paying attention-'cause it sure ain't me!!

16 thousand miles on this OE Metz. Looks like time for a new one. The front Z6 had the cracks and wore funny, so I went with the BT021. This rear has been solid though and a new Metz will replace it.
