Already mentioned what a great report Hal, but just a question. Thought I was seeing double on the above pic but whats the reason for two GPS units? Curiosity overrules. PM. ><>
1. Redundancy

2. Different data screens

3. needed extra memory for mp3 files (not)

4. Always have one in sight if I have to close an eye.

OK - forget numbers 3 and 4.

During the Spank last October, I was spending a lot of time hitting buttons to move between screens - and almost became one with the pavement because of that. So - I run one as primary, which I listen to, and the other shows different information. My configuration isn't quite there yet - I need to angle them a bit so that the sun won't opaque out both of them at the same time. This was my second major trip with two units - and I'm able to set the screens up, and just roll along without having to punch buttons. Much safer.

And besides - one of these summers coming up I'm gonna be hunting down a lot of hot dogs, ya know. I don't want to risk missing one because my GPS fails.

Just north of Mexican Hat, you should have gone up 261 through the Dugway.
Here's a pic from the top looking back down;

That's awesome Country down there, eh Hal.....Excellent Write up... Makes me want to fire up the bike and do it again..

(Thats the Valley of the God's Road branching off the highway in the pic. Well worth it, but very washboardy)
Don,

FYI, Hal and I did ride 261 northbound past Valley of the Gods enroute to WFO 6 at Park City. GZ suggested that we ride it and it was an interesting road. It was being graded halfway up the ridge and the fresh scattered dirt as at least 3" deep for several miles. Both of us we glad it didn't start raining or we would have been in deep yogurt!!

Hal, you remember that don't you??

Oh Yeah, I remember that !! There was still compacted gravel in the corners, and there was freshly graded dirt in the sections between - an absolute mess. You and I stopped about half way up, and I mentioned that if either one of us dropped our bike, we were in deep sushi.

It was at that time I wished that Yamaha made traning wheels for the FJR.

Riding those sections we tried to keep on the ruts created by the grader's tires - at least it was slightly compacted. Venturing outside of that rut, we were in several inches of loose dirt and gravel.

Just a few 'pucker' moments on that one.

And I was cursing GZ with the fleas of a thousand camels...... :D

I seem to recall it was around 8 or 9 miles of this - then we topped the climb onto a mesa that was flat and straight for about 25 miles or so - just an incredible ride. What a day that was !! Beautiful country, that !

The Valley of the Gods road and the Dugway were both badly washboarded, makes for an interesting ride all right.

Very unique and beautiful country tho.

So you Guy's cooking up another Border to Border run this year?

BF, I'm thinking 2010 or 2011 -

this year is entirely too many rallies - next year is either the IBR or Hot Dogs - so 2010 is the earliest I'll have the time to do a B2BI - but I really want to accomplish that one.

I know there's some folks in these parts that are interested in a B2B2B - so we'll see what happens.

Interesting you would mention that, I have contacted Steve about a BBG 3000 in 48 from Bakersfield to Joplin and back. Thinking of April or May 2008. What u think?

Ouch.

Can't this year - I have absolutely no vacation time available, and in fact will be pushing my luck with all the rallies I've entered.

But a BBG3000 does sound interesting -

Why Bakersfield?
