I'll admit to not reading the whole thread but the OP initially claims he wasn't running under-inflated but no where posts actual numbers. If he's running OEM numbers in after market tires it might possibly have been under inflated.

Hum, I just posted up the other day about a deal a Cdn distributor has on PR3 combo's.

Guess I'll stick with the PR2's that I'm not unhappy with to see how this all plays out. Their cheaper anyway!

He does state he checked pressure before the ride so it would be well above the low pressure I've used on my FZ1 at the track with my pr2's. May be a bad tire as I can't remember any troubles with the 3 reported here.

I have been keeping an eye out for what people are saying about tires for the past few months. This is the first time I've seen this brought up on this forum about the PR3's.

sticking with PR2's for now...

third set, and i've loved em.

I recall reading a few posts (perhaps here? can't find it) about bizarre and early cupping of the PR3 front tires and possibly a vague disconnected "squirm" when hard into the turns and leaned way over...

I also know some of the FJR guys are getting insane long life out of em...

so...........

sticking with PR2's for now...

That thread is about Pilot Power 2CTs, not PR3s.

There was a thread that initially bothered me a little bit last year on the same forum I think. A guy with one of the FZ bikes had a problem with the rear, and then blew the front and ended up crashing into his wife's SUV and going through the back windshield.

There were some things about that thread, and some things he said that made me question his story. The more he yapped, the more full of it he seemed. Anyway...I ended up buying a set and have a couple thousand on them. No problems yet. They run smooth, hold their air, stick well, no rubber has peeled off, and they seem to be wearing fine.

Maybe if I have them in the heat of the summer, things could change, but it strikes me funny that only guys on FZ6s seem to be having issues.

I just put a front one on a while back and have a new rear waiting. So far I really like the tire. I never tried the PR2's.

I never fully believed that thread about the catastrophic PR3 failure and instead... looked to see how the PR3s worked on bikes that completed last years Iron Butt Rally. I was impressed enough by what I learned, to mount a set for my Four Corners Tour. The PR3s are still on my bike, are nearing 16,000 miles and would likely make it past 18,000 miles but I'll be installing a new pair for my next Four Corners Tour in early June.

As is always the case when discussing tires.... YMMV

Nowhere did he mention Pilot Power, he said he installed 2ct(Michelin's dual compound) Pilot Road3's and by the pic I thought they were the PR3. This is a new thread, not the same one as the crash into the back of the SUV.

I agree it seems to be a bit dubious, I was just wondering if there was any other reports of PR3 troubles.

Been using PR2's on my FZ1 and the Feejeer for years :)

Well, 2CT is Michelin's designation for their dual compound sport tires. I tried to see the pics, but it said I had to be a member. The tire later in that thread is not a PR3. So...Going with the 2CT title, I think (thought) they're talking about a different tire.

Either way, a few of us have run them on the FJR, me included and have not seen any safety issu

es. I know JamesK wore through a front really fast, but other than that, I donno.

So far I like mine, but I haven't had them through a hot summer, so maybe they don't like the heat. The way they're wearing, I think they'll last until I take off for NERDS in Sept.

That should take them right through the hot desert summers Albuquerque is known for.

You'll also be showing up (at least) a month too late for NERDS, which is in August.

Maybe you'll be headed to EOM in September? I know that I will... ;)

FWIW, I have seen Michelin use the 2CT for any of their Dual Compound tires (including PR2s and PR3s).

I just bought a set with the "B" rear. Lets hope they are decent in the 120* heat in the desert.
