I'm finally getting around to having my ignition recall taken care of but... I don't have a clue about which Yamaha dealership to take my bike to.

I had a Goldwing that I rode for 145,000 miles and was only serviced at Niehaus in Litchfield, IL (1,020 mile t round trip). I have a 2001 CBR1100XX that has never been touched by any dealership and I've never had my 2006 FJR serviced at a dealershiip either.

Can anyone in Southeastern Michigan recommend a shop that may have actually worked on a FJR1300?

Thanks

Why not do the recall yourself, I did, and am comfortable in the knowledge that some stealer didn't butcher up my bike.

Call Gary McCoy at Mondak Motorsports ((406) 433-6635), he should be able to sort you out on the recall kit.

Hi,

I had my FJR at Macomb Powersport, they did not resolve my clutch plate issue or the ignition switch recall, this was in Feburary. (do not do business with them)

I went to K&W Cycle for the ignition recall, the service manager refused to order the recalled ignition switch until the FJR was in for service. He indicated

service would take 1 to 2 weeks.

I purchased the recall switch kit and replaced.

My friend has a 2006 FJR and had it serviced at Great Lakes Powersports, they did not order the switch until the bike was disassembled for the recall.

The service manager lied and told him the switch was in stock. The bike was down almost two weeks. (10 days) The service work on the recall was

satisfactory.

Roseville Powersports has the recall kits in stock, I do not know anything about their service.

Good Luck,

Bill

I had my TPS replaced by Roseneau in Dearborn Heights as part of the recall. To be honest I was reluctant to have them touch my FJR as I have always perfromed all maintenace and repairs myself. I always get nervouse taknig any vehicle into a dealership.

In the case of the TPS, they replaed it with no issues. Later I took the FJR in to have the cam chain tensioner replaced under Y.E.S. No issues or hassles.

In my book, Rosenau Service is batting 1000!

My two cents.

I purchased the recall switch kit and replaced.

How much did the kit cost? I may just do the same thing and figure that the money spent is worth not having someone experiment on my FJR.

Years ago, I took my Goldwing to Macomb Powersports to have a recalled Michelin rear tire replaced. The shithead who was doing the work took 45 minutes to even remove the rear tire. Watching him work on that tire was like watching a monkey **** a football. I would never, ever let them near my FJR.

I've never been to the Roseville dealership even though I live in Grosse Pointe Woods. Maybe I'll swing by there and find out if they've ever seen a FJR1300

I just may do the 1,020 mile ride to Niehaus and have my son ride with me on the Blackbird. They can check the Blackbirds valves and replace the FJR ignition switch at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestion

Back on topic.

Bill,

I've spoke about Roseville Powersports on other threads; I've had good experiences with them.

I live about a mile from Macomb Powersports. While I did purchase my '09 from them (more like stole it off the floor), I will not go there for service or parts.

Last year, just before EOM, my '04 died. I spend the entire Labor Day weekend trouble shooting with no luck. I called around, Macomb & others. No one could give me a warm'n'fuzzy about when they could get to it, how they would charge, etc. I choose Roseville Powersports because the service manager, Craig, actually listened to my description of symptoms, troubleshooting I had done, and said he'd validate what I was saying and pick it up from there. Took them about 45 minutes. PCIII was bad (op-checked ok, but no signal to injectors - I didn't think to unplug it completely because it was reading gtg when plugged into the laptop). Charged me 1/2 hour labor. Bike was ready same day. I have dealt with them for parts as well, good service there too.

If I have any issues with the new bike, it will go to Roseville.

Thanks Wayne. I'll stop by there on Tuesday and speak with them.

Bill,

The recall switch cost $48.93 plus tax at K&W Cycle (Dylin ordered the switch); Roseville had a switch in stock but wanted more than $60.00 plus tax for the switch. Dealer cost on the switch is $35.71. Part number for the recall kit is 90891-30058-00. The new switch is identified by a yellow band on the wire harness.

Please let me know about Roseville's service if you have them do the recall.

Good luck,

Bill

I had the tick fix done at Macomb Powersports. I bought my 2004 there and from that time on everytime I went in they had a different service manager and each one was a tool. It has had a makeover since then, but after the hard time they gave me regarding the tick fix and the 7 weeks they took to fix it, I generally stay away now. On the plus side they seemed to do a good job and my FJR came back in the like new condition it went in.

Roseville Powersports has sold several FJR's out of there, not sure how many they have worked on.

I purchased my 2008 from Rosenau's in Dearborn. They have ordered my switch and will call me when it comes in. I have no idea how talented they are there, but heard a couple of years ago the head mechanic from Macomb Powersports went there. He seemed like a knowledgable guy.

Nicholsons in Ann Arbor used to have a mechanic that owned a FJR there. Not sure if he still is there.

Not much help I know.....I have a hard time taking it to the dealership for anything.....thus when I bought a new bike I stayed with the FJR so it only needs to visit the dealership every 26,000 miles....I can do the easy stuff.

On Tuesday morning, I drove my car over to Roseville Powersports to ask about having the ignition replaced. I learned that they had done more than a dozen ignition recalls and that they had a few of the switches in stock. I drove home, got my bike and rode back to the dealership at 11:00 AM. I left the bike with Dan Bill, the mechanic and walked down the street to get a cup of coffee at Tim Horton's. When I returned to the dealership, I went to the parts department to get some fork oil and at 12:10 AM, I rode my bike away from the dealership with the new ignition switch installed.

If you are happy and would like to recommend this shop post it up under dealer /vendor feedback section.

Someone is always looking for a good shop!

I was happy that they had the switch in stock and was happy that it was installed while I had a cup of coffee and read the morning newspaper. I was not too happy when the mechanic pointed out that one of the tabs on the silver cover that goes over the back of the gas tank was broken off and asked me if it was broken when I brought the bike in. Obviously, I didn't break off the tab and leave the broken piece stuck in the rubber grommet. The mechanic was nice enough to Krazy Glue the tab back on but if fell off almost immediately (From my Goldwing days... I know enough to mix baking soda with the Krazy Glue as a way of making certain that the part never comes off after being glued. So I fixed the broken tab when I got the bike home)

Bottom line... I was happy with the ignition switch replacement but would not recommend using this dealership for anything beyond handling that recall.
