Mirror mount repairable?

FWIW, last year after I had a minor mishap and bent the left mirror mount stay, I left the damaged mirror on and used it for leverage while muscling and pounding the stay straight. I did eventually rip the bolts out of the old mirror, but it lasted long enough to straighten out the stay and that mirror was going to the trash heap anyway.

So I ended up bending my frame back into place this afternoon - I used a tapered metal rod that I think is supposed to be used for just such a purpose to bend the mirror mounts back into shape. I had to loosen the front fairing parts to pull the rubber spacer and grommet as they were blocking things, but the process was pretty painless.

Sure wish I knew what the metal rod was called, I borrowed it from a friend and it'd be a handy thing to have in the toolbox. For the life of me, I can't find it. He had several in different sizes - all ~12" long and varying diameters -2mm to 5mm, super unbendable.
