The FJR is definately nice, but, adjustments must be made to make it right for each individual owner. I have searched threads and read for days regarding seats/shields/risers/etc. The only consistent is that it is different for everyone...therefore reading does little good. It is funny, or sad, how the same gizmo that one member loves...another member hates.

It appears I am going to need a new shield, risers/clamps and other 'stuff' as well . I cannot afford to buy and experiment with 6 shields, 3 gadgets that attach to the windshield, a widget that attaches to your helmet, 3 risers and new top triple clamp, etc. Therefore, anyone from the show me state willing to meet and allow a quick visual/test ride? The only addons I currently have for reciprocal at this early point are Corbin rider and passenger seats, extended sliders and a fender extender. Any FJR owner is welcome to see/test ride the seat if you are in the need for such a farkle. Once I find the right setup for me and purchase addtional 'stuff', there will be more for fellow members to test.

Thanx,

Mark

That's a nice offer Mark. The only thing I need farkle money for is more time and fuel.

That's only because some of these guys have nothing better to do with all the money they have, I've added sliders, gas and just about 9K miles last year from April to December...that's it. Just go out and ride that thing

Yesterday I did go out and ride that thing to the tune of 300 miles on an interstate. Not my preference of road choices but it was for work and that was the quickest route. The buffeting and wind noise with the shield up was simply unacceptable. I finally just adjusted the shield down to ride in clean air. Not acceptable for a touring machine...which is why I bought it. What I am trying to achieve is a real sport(shield down) touring(shield up) bike.

I travel for work and use the bike as transportation. If I want to ride twisties, I have to ride for a couple hours to find them. I would like a quiet, unbeaten and comfortable ride for those two travel scenario's. Once I arrive at the destination, then it is not such a big deal.

Hopefully I can attend and check out several farkled rides at the SFO meeting in late April. Just don't want to wait over a month to solve the problem. Lots of good riding between now and then. B)

Thanx,

Mark

Don't have the link, but there is a windshield loaner program here (somewhere) You pay the postage and can test out varous sheilds.......

The Skyway spacers that are mentioned on these boards in several places are a great place to start on getting the wind under control.

They essentially change the tilt angle of the windshield by raising the lower edge of the windshield about 1/2" away from the faring. Allows a little more air to pass, calming the buffeting affect, and seems to work pretty well. I don't have huge miles after doing this, but it does seem to help, and cheap to boot.

I run the larger Yamaha 'shield, by the way, but it would probably work just as well on the stock one.

Thanx for the replies gentlemen.

I found the thread regarding the shield loaner program and it appears it has changed to 'no shipping' and in person exchange only. Nothing within riding distance of Missouri.

Most of the spacer adjustments seemed to be on gen 1 machines. If it helps with the new gen 2 set up as well, I'll give it a try. I enjoy tinkering with bikes anyway.

Nice offer Show me. I am in the motorcycle business and have a dealer in Independence so I am in the KC area often. I'll shoot ya a pm. Hey, ya never know...If you ride my bike, you just might want to trade that Russell for my Corbin???

Looks like we have a rider in Columbia, S'field, St. louis and KC. Any other Missouri riders out there?

Thanx again,

Mark

From my 5 years on various boards and 2 FJR's here is some generalizations for you regarding windsheilds.

Stock screen works well up to 5'10"

+2 inches over stock between 5'10" and 6'0"

+4 over stock between 6'0"and 6'2"

+6 over stock over 6'3

Or, In my case, I whacked 4" off the stocker! The clean air coming over the shield now is awesome! :D

I know what you mean about the buffeting. For what it's worth, I'm pretty happy with the Yamaha Touring shield. It doesn't throw looks out the barn door (by hanging a barn door) but provides much less buffeting when fully extended or fully retracted. In between is another story. For me it's a good compromise between aesthetics and function. For reference I'm 6' even.
