BiggJohn has fairly nailed it.

His list alone would be a kick-ass afternoon.

Throw in Great Divide for fun and I'd say we had a Premier Beer Tour.

Get those vehicles lined up and lets start working on drivers.

I vote for a nice brisk ride of a few hours length in the morning, followed by a Brew Crew rampage across the Front Range.

Bitchin'.

Damn that sounds fun! I just may have to antie up and pay for my reg

Here's another fun reason to attend...

Ari Rankum, our own master of the subtle, twistmaster of the sublime, majordomo of brainy badinage, has been tasked with presenting us with his thoughts on life and the proper preparation of the Northern Snakehead while dancing naked about the campfire. Hopefully, we won't need the overhead projector for this, but if you want a good laugh and maybe a head-scratcher or two, you will not want to miss this l'il ditty on Friday night. ;)

So start asking the wives about some spa time, I think that maybe the hardest to plan, since they don't talk on here. I may need the ladies to log on and gimme some opinions. I'll start a thread about it a little closer to the event.
If anyone sees anything they think would be fun for a group, send me a PM. I'll check it all out!
Count me in for the spa... :)

23 miles east of the Hotel on I-70 is Idaho Springs with gold mine tours and gold panning.

Clicky here for details about the Argo Gold Mine Mill in Idaho Springs and tour information.

Idaho Springs was also one of the featured bonus locations on the 2007 Iron Butt Rally and featured prominently in the rally artwork. See if you can find the bonus.

$490 Million Dollars of Cantilevered Fun!

wo_rvcrvtunn.jpg

On the way to NAFO for Californians Glenwood Canyon Freeway is about 140 miles West of the Hotel between Glenwood Canyon and Gypsum, CO.

This particular stretch of freeway is:
 • one of the most scenic sections of Interstate in the country,
 • one of the last sections of Interstate Highway to be built,
 • a construction project that brought never-before-used construction methods to the U.S.
 • one of the great engineering achievements of the U.S. using balanced cantilever construction
 • I bet there are fishies in those water! Bring your fly rod.

I second Iggy's recommendation to ride the I-70, heading West towards Golden. That is the most beautiful stretch of freeway I've ever seen. Not only that, but the drivers were well behaved and used the left lane for passing only, then moved to the right.

Canon City looks like an interesting place too. I believe that they have a prison museum there. Know anyone you want to see behind bars?

Golden: Best Place to Be In a Tsunami or Nuclear Test

world_index.gif

It's not a place that has tours, but it's interesting to know that 4.3 miles from our hotel is the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program.

This is the place that is the world leader in locating and identifying earthquakes around the world including the North Korea Nuclear Test in 2006. This is the town to be if you're a nerdy amateur seismologist or have a tsunami fetish.

If your FJR wobbles...it could be because of a cupped tires.....or a 6.9 tsunami

Free Day at a Museum for NAFO Attendees!
Historic Downtown Golden

GoldenStr.jpg

The Golden Pioneer Museum is 6 miles from the hotel and holding a free day, Saturday, June 26th.

The museum includes exhibits:
 • U.S. Cavalary collection
 • Mining implements
 • Coors ceramic
 • Native American artifacts.

So, at $3 it isn't going to be mixed up with the Guggenheim, however, there are also about 10 other museums in walking distance and a cute downtown area you can actually see detail with Google Streetview. Of some meal interest appears to be Buffalo Rose and a Pizza Place with outdoor seating. Mmmmm....Saturday lunch.

Also, a hot rod with a headlight out.
