I'm hoping for some ideas for great, clean, budget priced motels for my ride this fall. Would love to have Holiday Inn Express level accommodations for Motel 6 prices.

My budget will get busted if I stay in HI Express too much and i have found M6 to be pretty scuzzy in many areas. WIFI is important since I will try to blog some pics and comments every night.

Proposed route here:

I did something similar in 2010, on the road for 2 1/2 mths. There were only two of us and we camped, stayed with family and friends, and motel only when then weather didn't cooperate or we were just plain too tired to set up camp stuff! If camping isn't your thing I would try looking into KOA campgrounds as most have very sparse cabins that are quite inexpensive? At the same time you are sleeping in your own sleeping bag which should mean no little critters? We did end up staying a few nights in places I would definitely not recommend but it did add to the "Experience"! I live in Vernon, B.C. and am in the process of moving into a smaller home but, if you plan to come through here on your way to Hyder, pm me with dates etc. and if I can't put you up I have local FJR friends who could! Have a great trip.

A couple of suggestions...

Night 50 (Grand Canyon) - we stayed at Jacob Lake Inn which is outside the north entrance.

Night 55 (Barstow), consider going a little farther to Kernville and stay at the Kern Lodge... budget friendly, real nice folks that run it, motorcycle friendly, and there's a great pub within close walking distance. :)

Night 57 (Klamath Falls), Cimarron Inn is a good one. Have stayed there a couple of times.

Your routes take you in the vicinity of lots of FJRforum members... I'll bet there may be a few who would be kind enough to let you stay with them if you ask real nice. B)

Kern Lodge is nice I stay there every October with a group of riders but it's $100.00 a night.

Not really budget friendly.

Ah I guess it is when you're splitting costs with someone... forgot to take that into consideration. Wendy / BionicPelvis lives very close by there. :)

I don't have any specific recommendations based on your route, but when I ventured out to Colorado last summer and wandered around for a couple weeks, I found Super 8's often had very nice accommodations. I tented half of the time, but when it was time for a shower and real bed, it seems like S8 always had the best prices out of the bunch. All but one were sub-$100, even sub $80 in many cases.

You're going through the worst part of Arkansas.

Don't stop.

Don't even slow down....

*edit*

It looks like you have Hot Springs as a stop.

You need to stay in one of the old hotels and get the full mineral bath treatment including a massage.

It's worth the extra money, and will be a welcome pampering on your trip.

Can't recommend one over another.

I've had good results with Super 8's AARP rates. Might give them a look.
Super8 is part of the Wyndham group (https://www.wyndham.com/) as are Microtel, Days Inn and a bunch more. If you join their "rewards" program you accumulate points when you stay in any of their hotel/motels which can earn you a free night along the way. They also have discounted rates for AAA, military, AARP, etc... Check out the website to see what level accommodations are available along your route.

Book through hotwire.com and only select 2.5-3 star hotels. This will give you Holiday Inn Express/Hamton Inn/Wyndam Inn type rooms at $40-60/night prices.

Night 24: Wolfeboro, NH:

Tourist town, 'spensive until after the Columbus Day weekend (which, BTW, you don't want to be anywhere near Lake Winnipesaukee on that weekend - gridlock around the entire lake w/leaf peepers).

There aren't any bargains in Wolfeboro that I know of. I think the best trade-off between price & accommodations is The lake Motel https://www.thelakemotel.com/

The chamber website is https://www.wolfeborochamber.com/directory/lodging/hotels,-motels-and-cottages/

Bayside Grill was excellent the last time I was there & way less 'stuffy' than Garwood's (which has excellent food but it's a bit spendy & has a snobbish undertone).

That's a heck of a nice trip you've got planned. Enjoy & ride safe,

Ed

Yeah I stopped by her cycle shop in Kernville and said "Hello" last October.

All I can tell you about night 49, Cedar City, is that there are a number of cheap hotels that are closer to motel 6 than HI, but, the Best Western Plus is in the middle of downtown and, as I recall, only a few(20) bucks more than the stuff next to the freeway. That, and it was easily worth $50 more. Very nice place.

Also, unless you have your heart set on Colorado Springs, try one of the smaller towns, Gunnison, Leadville, Silverton. Colorado Springs is just a busy suburb of greater Denver. Aside from the Air force Academy and access to Pikes Peak, it has little personality. JSNS

Forgot to mention. I'm quite envious of your trip and can't wait to follow along. Should be fun.

Was staying at a friends place in Wolfboro but apparently they have just moved to Fremont so we will be heading there for the night. Thanks for the tips.

You're gonna have a hellavua time finding a well priced, non-scuzzy hotel in Santa Fe on night 47. My brother Patch is about 2 hours north in Red River and the Kachina Lodge in Taos is nice. I'm an hour south in Albuquerque, and I can either work on a deal, or you can stay here for free.

It looks like you're grabbing I40 to head into Texas anyway. Lemme know.

Night 42 - Nashville

Looks as if you are coming up the Trace which ends up close to Bellevue just outside of Downtown Nashville. Some inexpensive options there.

If you are wanting to see some of the the sights downtown you could stay at a Comfort Inn, Hol Inn Express and Best Western on White Bridge Road about 10 minutes from Downtown. Many good restaurants options close by as well.

This is a a good spot to start your next day as it is the road you can take to I24. White Bridge turns into Briley Prky a loop around Nashville.

Best Western, although not one of the cheapest, has a rewards system also. That and Wyndham are a couple of cards in my deck. Sandman inns have a plan also.
