Are you kidding me?! If it happens I am going to move mountains in order to be there.

Won't happen that quickly.

Can't happen that quickly.

By July 12 we will know if F-1 is not coming back.

Attendance was strangely low (like 25%) last week. I was there.

That would open up the Speedway to make the needed changes to the F-1 track.

The current configuration does not meet Moto GP safety standards.

If a deal does get put together, it will likely be for '09.

That would be cool to see bikes on the banked turns of the Speedway.

I would love to see it come to Indy, but I don't know how they could make the track safe enough for bikes. If they use the F1 track config it would be scarry going thru the oval turn one and 200+ with a concrete wall at the edge of the track.

I'm going when ever it happens if it happens at all. I wish the F1 race would draw bigger crowds. I watched the race on tv and wished I was there. Tony George has screwed the speedway big time IMHO. Open wheel racing in the states is in the tank. I grew up watching open wheel not nascar. I hope F1 comes back as well as the GP bikes.

Having never seen a bike race in person, your pretty close to Mid-Ohio which is one of the best AMA events IMO. August 3-5, I'll be there on Sunday.

More info

Barber Motorsport Park in Birmingham, AL https://www.barbermotorsports.com/ is the only track in the US that was purposly build to possibley meet the FIM guidlines for a GP race. They had FIM officials put their $.02 in when in the design phase.

I'd rather see them race Daytona than Indy. But for sure Barber over all the rest ... even Laguna. :D

Well it looks like it is a done deal.

They are shooting for Fall of 2008.

They have a **** load of work to do.

Redesign and build the course.

Scheduling, promotion, ticket sales.

TV contracts... blah,blah,blah

?

To be fair...,

the Speedway is responsible for the facility and issues around hosting the event (parking, ticket sales, security, the track itself, etc.)

They are much like a convention center business. They supply the place for the event to take place.

The success or failure of any event has a lot more to do with the racing organization.

IRL, Nascar, F-1.

If an event is not promoted or has low turn out, that's all on the racing series, as long as the facility meets expectations. I didn't hear a single complaint about the Speedway facility at the F-1 race.

In fact, it only took 5 - 10 minutes to park 2- 3 blocks from the track and the stands were spotless.

The track surface appeared flawless.

I never saw a single local TV add or newspaper add for the F-1 race.

Most people in town didn't even know the date of the race. (and still I'll quess 50K people showed up)

That's not Tony George's part of the pie. That belongs to Mr. Ecklstein at F-1.

Who puts on a major league event like this and doesn't lift a finger to promote it?

I'm hoping you're saying this only for logistical reasons. Daytona is a ******** as far as racetracks go (for motorcycles).

This isn't a definite yet. Until you see a press release from the speedway, don't believe everything you read.

Not read this thread through, so I don't know if I am repeating anything.....but I would suggest that there is not a chance of MotoGP going anywhere that safety is not absoloute. Concrete walls would not even be considered by the MGP crowd.

They kick up a fuss if run off areas are not wide enough and some are like football pitches, so to expect them to consider a concrete wall? Sorry to spoil it guys.

Is this true? taken from the link that you posted. Mind blowing if it is.

Indianapolis Speedway works on a scale unknown in motorcycle racing—their Brickyard 400 NASCAR event attracts over 400,000 spectators and the Indy 500 once brought in double that number, or more

Bill, don't just wait for MGP, get yourself to an AMA meeting. You will get hooked, and surprised at the sheer speed if you watch in the right spot. Get yourself into the paddock at some point and have a close look at the bikes too. A great day out I promise.

I think that number (when it says double that number) is high, but, it's still a good amount of people. They have room for over 250,000 in the grandstands alone. When you factor in all of the people in the infield, the number easily reaches 400,000

Wow, still a lot of people at one event, I bet the queues to get out are monsterous. We get 130,000 to the brit GP when the mood takes them. (Weather permiting & sufficient Brit interest). I have never heard of that many people at any sports event before.
